Description
The Garmin 010-10644-00 Speed/Cadence sensor (GSC 10) can monitor your pedaling cadence as you ride with this self-calibrating, wireless speed/cadence sensor. It measures and reports your pedaling strokes per minute, providing feedback for optimal performance. Use with the Edge 305 or Edge 305CAD, Included With The Edge 305CAD GPS PlusA good companion for Garmin's Edge 305 and 305CAD cycle computers and the Garmin Forerunner 305 personal trainer, the GSC 10 monitors your cycling rhythm for up-to-the-minute results and later analysis. The self-calibrating, wireless unit measures both speed (in pedaling strokes per minute) and cadence , then provides feedback to the user for optimal performance. You can later feed the results to Garmin's Training Center software, which helps you tailor your workouts to meet specific goals and objectives.
Like the Garmin heart rate monitor, the GSC 10 attaches easily to your bike, where its sensors detect signals from your wheels and send the information wirelessly to your personal trainer/cycle computer. It's also backed by a one-year warranty.

Never got this item from Amazon - Sep 02, 2010
Any convenience of ordering went right out the window when Amazon chose to send my package by USPS. They (USPS)said i had moved and I had not. Had i known they were sending it USPS I would have put my p.o. box in the address. As we know many vendors will not deliver to PO boxes so this matter NEEDS TO BE CLEAR WHEN PURCHASING WHAT CARRIER IS BEING USED. I work full time and cannot spend a lot of time figuring out WHAT AMAZON IS GOING TO DO WITH MY package. I ordered two similar items from ebay which came almost immediately. ebay didn't have the other accessory but AMAZON did. otherwise I would not have used them (AMAZON)as this has happened more than once before.
If AMAZON had a more interactive custiomer service venue I might not have to write this .
frustrated x Amazon customer.
Glad I bought it - Aug 23, 2010
When i first ordered my Garmin 705 I didn't feel I needed a cadance monitor, but after riding and talking with more experianced riders i thought i would buy one. It really does help improve your riding by being aware of your average cadance..
Good Accessory For My Garmin Forerunner 305 - Aug 09, 2010
I've had my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS Receiver With Heart Rate Monitor for awhile now and have only used it for running events. I recently purchased a road bike and bought this to track my bike workouts.
Installation was easy to understand. All the components are held in place with "zip ties" which makes it easy. We had no difficulty getting the sensors to align. The product is small and lightweight, so unless you are worried about ounces added to your bike weight (if you are, you're probably buying an expensive cycle computer), it does not add appreciable weight or bulk. After installation, you turn on your Forerunner and tell it that you have now installed the sensor (consult your Forerunner instruction booklet) and it immediately picked it up. That's all there is to it. You are then able to monitor pedal cadence and speed of your ride.
I would absolutely recommend this if you already have a Forerunner 305 and now want to monitor bike workouts.
If you are serious about becoming a better rider get this!! - Aug 02, 2010
I never thought I needed this piece of tech till I got it. WOW! Combined with the Forerunner 305, you can really track your performance and pedaling efficiency like never before. It works like it's supposed to, and the best part - when you're indoors on the trainer, you'll know exactly how many miles you've done! It has made training a lot more fun, and when you're training hard, you need all the help you can get! Installation was easy, setup was automatic. Pony up the extra few bucks for this unit, you won't regret it! Highly recommended.
Review for Garmin GSC 10 Sensor - Jul 18, 2010
I love the extra info I'm now getting on my training bike runs. Highly recommend the Garmin GSC 10 - Speed & cadence sensor to all road bikers.
Shipped w/ dead battery and bad instruction or dead LED, Otherwise works great - Jul 13, 2010
My GSC10 arrived w/ a dead battery and either the install instructions refer to a non-existent LED that blinks when either magnet passes the sensor for a short period of time after resetting the unit or my sensor shipped w/ a dead LED. Install takes a bit of time to get the sensors and magnets lined up and in a position that won't interfere w/ pedaling and rotation of the rear wheel, exacerbated in my case by the dead battery and non-functioning or non-existent LED, but overall not the worst thing I've ever experienced. Got it all set up in ~35 minutes.
Once I got a new battery in the thing and gave up on the LED showing me that it was working before firing up my head unit again, it paired up automagically with the Edge 500 and has been working great ever since.
Can't comment on battery life or overall long term durability as I've only logged ~500 miles with it so far, but it has seen significant water/mud spray so far with no adverse effects. It's stayed securely mounted and hasn't got in the way so far. Changing the battery will most likely be a PITA w/o removing the sensor from the chain stay, but I wouldn't anticipate remounting and repositioning taking more than 10 minutes or so and a couple of zip ties.
So far the Edge 500, GSC10 and Premium HRM have been a great training tool and an excellent use of ~$300. Thinking of buying a second GSC10 to use on the rental I'll be riding on a trip next month and then putting it on my MTB when I get back home. This product would get 5 stars from me if it weren't for the dead battery and confused instructions or broken LED.
Easy to install, works well - Jul 11, 2010
I bought this after I had been using my Garmin Forerunner 405 for just for running. I found it was easy to install on the bike and no fuss to sync it with the rear wheel, pedal and the actual Forerunner. I use to to track all my rides now as well.
Great product! Easy to install, easy to use. - Jul 06, 2010
As with all my other Garmin products, this cadence sensor exceeds my expectations. The directions were a little confusing, but it was easy to install and very easy to use. Incredibly useful.
Works great on '08 Madone 5-Series frame - Jul 05, 2010
The included stick on rubber adapter pad fits perfectly on the angular frame on the recent 5-series Madone. I was expecting to have to find some way to make it work, but the adapters fits like it was made for the Madone frame - and maybe it was.
Paired easily to my Trek Incite Alpine computer. Works great.
Another great Garmin product - Jun 29, 2010
Simple to install. Pushed two buttons on the Forerunner 305. And bam! Works perfect.
Great with new Battery - Jun 20, 2010
Sensor works amazing, it is more sensitive than any other speed and cadence sensor I have used. I am specifically comparing it to the Cateye Astrale 8 which I just had before I installed this and the Garmin GSC 10 does not need to be placed nearly as close to the pedal or wheel to get a good signal. The connection has always worked while riding, even after stopping for a few minutes it still continues to work great.
The only issue I had was that when it came it appeared to work but the battery was too weak to have the signal recognized by my Garmin Forerunner 305. I replaced the battery and it worked perfectly, but it is sad to have to replace the battery on a brand new unit, but I guess that's why most products come without batteries.
Overall, great product and I am very glad I bought it.
The Design Needs Improvement - Jun 19, 2010
Thumbs Up - Works well. Doesnt seem bothered by the shock, vibration, and movement associated with my full suspension mountain bike.
Thumbs Down - Speed magnet and speed sensor arm (the arm that rotates) look delicate. Cadence magnet needs complete redesign. The spacing between the crank and the trailing arm is much greater on a full suspension bike than usual. Most people are making their own spacer (I did) but the offset tie wrap makes it difficult.
Garmin gsc 10 - Jun 18, 2010
I took it out for a short ride to test it. Not sure what function the speed serves as the watch has gps that picks up the speed. Maybe if you are riding somewhere with heavy tree coverage you could still get speed. I use mine on a road bike so I am not sure about this. I like having this other data point to look at post workout. I am also able to check cadence during my ride. I just got this for my birthday. I mounted it on my bike it was very easy to mount. A couple wire ties. The hard part was figuring out I needed to tell my 310xt to look for it. Once I figured that out it tied right up.
Works great! - Jun 07, 2010
Works great! Easy to install and calibrate. Did take a little while for my 405 to find it at first but no trouble now. Overall a great way to use my current technology (Forerunner 405) to integrate with my riding as well as my running now.
Great Product - Jun 06, 2010
Just followed the instructions and it worked fine right away. The LED light that shows correct alignment is a great idea and aids installation.
Best investment ever! - Jun 05, 2010
I purchased this to compliment my Garmin 310XT. I run a lot, but also like to ride trails with my son. Very easy to install and accurate.LOVE IT!!
GARMIN CADENCE SENSOR - Jun 01, 2010
So far it works great.
Had to readjust a couple times to get both the cadence and the speed sensors to work. Actually had to turn the sensing unit upside down to best pick them up. However, not very mechanically inclined, so take the difficulty as mostly user error.
Purchased it mainly to track workouts on my indoor trainer during the winter. However, have used the cadence info on my outside rides more than expected to target training zones.
It felt like it took forever to get here, ship time was over the high end of the estimate. But that was a temporary inconvenience that does not reflect on the product.
Needs a redesign - May 18, 2010
I'm a big and long time fan of Garmin fitness equipment. I have 2 Forerunner 305's, an Edge 305 and a 310XT. I love' em all. I love both forms of heartrate straps. I'm very happy with the new version of Garmin Connect that is a great free service. Garmin is also excellent with customer service.
On the other hand this cadence device is the worst piece of Garmin equipment I have ever experienced. I bought two as I can move the Edge 305 between bikes. Set up is not all that difficult. The problem is keeping the things working. The longest I've been able to get one to work is a month and I've had two for going on two years.
Lately even with new batteries I can get the green light that checks to make sure that the magnet on the crank arm is making magenetic contact with the unit to flash when the bike is in the stand but not when I'm actually riding the bike. Keep in mind you use 2032's and those batteries get expensive to switch out every month. I could see if only one was having issues but both are and so I'm thinking design issues are at play.
The only thing I can say positive about this unit is that since it has worked so rarely that I have developed my own sense of cadence so I really don't need it. On the other hand I'm a gearhead (just in case you couldn't tell) and it drives me nuts that I've paid good money for these things and they simply don't work worth a damn.
Save your money and take a pass until Garmin redesigns this unit.
Faulty Unit, Be Aware for Bad Manufacturing - May 10, 2010
Unfortunately, as Garmin has expanded their quality control has been poor. While I believe this has the potential to be a good product, I purchased two of these units for my bike and my wife's. One of them came with an almost dead battery and a dead speed sensor (although the cadence works well). I am not the only person with this issue as the garmin support forums have had several people complain of this issue. Replacing the unit through G has been difficult as well. Their call center is slow and overwhelmed.
The second unit works perfectly as expected, and provides what is advertised. The unit seamlessly pairs with both my forerunner 310xt and my wife's forerunner 405.
So, while the product itself, if it worked w/o problem I would rate as a 4, the QC issues and issues with Garmin Customer Support make the GSC (which I am otherwise a fan of) a 2 star rating.
Garmin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor - May 10, 2010
I mounted the Garmiin GSC 10 Speed/Cadence Bike Sensor on my Specialized Epic Comp. Installation of the unit itself was easy, but I did have to add a rubber shim when I mounted the magnet to my crankarm to get it close enough for it to read from to the sensor. After the installation was complete and I sinked it to my Garmin forerunner 305 everything works flawlessly.
Good product for improving training data - May 06, 2010
This is a unit I bought for another bike, I have found them to be reliable and easy to install. They can be broken if a rock or something hits them but that would be expected.
great product! - May 02, 2010
I bought this as a gift for my husband as he competes in triathlons and recently bought the garmin watch. He really likes it. Here are some pros according to him: wireless, cadence is accurate.
some cons: he can't get it to show his speed when biking on a stationary bike trainer.
Overall he's happy with it!
Great tool - Apr 17, 2010
Very easy to install, no wires, no problems communicating with my Forerunner 305. A good buy!
Great for Indoor / Outdoor trainning. - Apr 16, 2010
This is a great product, just had it for two weeks and I am very pleased with it. Now I can know all the needed information when I train indoors with a trainer or roller, and also I can record it all and upload it to my computer. The speed and cadence sensor is very useful for every cyclist.
Very easy and fast installation, The very first time I used it was on a long race in a very rainy day. It worked great.
I even got two of these sensors, so I can ride my two bikes with the same Garmin Edge 500. Great products.
great addition to my Garmin watch - Apr 15, 2010
I got this to compliment my Garmin FR60 watch. I wanted to be able to track my bike rides along with my swims and runs. Since my watch is not as easy to read while riding, I kept my regular bike computer as well. The installation was fairly easy with one exception... To get the crank sensor in the right spot, I had to custom make a wedge to position it correctly. Luckily for me, I'm a woodworker as well and had some scrap black plastic I was able to machine into the right shape. I'm assuming here that my situation is not unique and they should include something that accomodates this.
The accuracy on this is very good. This could be I need to figure out how to use it, but... it'll go to sleep if you come to a stop. For example, I stopped during a 50 miler for a bathroom break and another ride I stopped to fix a flat. Both times, the unit (or my watch) went into sleep mode and I lost data for the remainder of the ride.
Overall it is a great product that, once I figure out the sleep issue, fits the bill for what I need.
