     Excellent Game - Aug 31, 2010

God of War III is an excellent title that is a must-buy for any PS3 owner. The gameplay is tight and addictive, perfectly following the "easy to pick up, hard to master" formula. The graphics are among the best I've seen in any video game, and the story is engrossing and well acted. In short, this is a fantastic game that any PS3 owner shouldn't hesitate to add to their collection.

     Don't waste your money - Aug 30, 2010

All you do in this game is mash the square button as fast as you can as you walk up and down paths. You don't even have to aim your attacks because Kratos' sword swing is so large it hits everything around him. So boring!
That's it! Just hit square as fast as possible, let the baddies come to you, and every once in awhile jump up a cliff...
The graphics do look pretty cool. Yet even those aren't the best around.

     Awesome - Aug 23, 2010

this game is an awesome conclusion to the trilogy i would definitely reccomend this to anyone.

Great game!, but too short! - Aug 23, 2010

The graphics are great!. This is a must-have game, I recommend too the GOW and GOW2. The sounds and music are great too, if you have a LED TV, is like a movie in real time.

God of War III - Aug 20, 2010

I'm giving this game a well deserved 5 stars. Not only are the graphics spectacular and the story line optimal, but the new weapons are awesome and I love all of the new abilities.

     Awesome action game - Aug 08, 2010

This is probably one of the coolest game I have ever played on a console. The action sequences are absolutely incredible. I could go into a lot of detail but I don't want to spoil it for you. If you own a PS3 you really should try this game, either rent or buy. If you like action games and aren't turned off by gore, this should be one of the first few games you try.

    Kick ass game.

     Oh my goodness!!!!!!!!! - Aug 08, 2010

This game is INCREDIBLE!!!! I thought this game would make a GREAT movie!!! Then, I thought, that the game itself surpasses any game that would be made. Given that most Game-To-Movies are terrible.

Incredible graphics. You have got to play this game. Definitely NOT FOR KIDS!!!! And I don't mean because of graphics. When you are in the room of Aphrodite, it's really way over the top and didn't need to be in the story. I kind of wish that part wasn't in there. But, it appeals to all these hormonal teenagers and um' lonely male adults....anyway the plot of the game is simple. Kill Zeus. Which is funny to me how the Greek gods are as mortal as...well mortals. But, that's what makes them fantasy and not real. So, anyway, Kratos the character is going after Zeus and kills main bosses along the way. But, no spoilers here. What is cool is that when you defeat each boss, you acquire their weapons.

Graphics, Sound, gameplay, you couldn't ask for a better gaming experience.

In fact the voice talents are amazing. Adrienne Barbeau, Clancy Brown, Elijah Woods, and others.

What a game, what a game. If you have never played God Of War III on PS3, you have got to rent it or buy. It is incredible. I know that there are the previous versions I and II for the PS2, but I'm afraid to play those because I'm afraid it will not live up to what the PS3 delivered. I heard that they are coming out with a new God of War!!!

So, I highly recommend this game. You will be mesmerized for hours on end!!!

Flat Story, Gratuitous Violence, Overt Sexuality, definitely NOT for Kids - Aug 07, 2010

I got this game on the recommendation of friends who said that if I had enjoyed Uncharted 2, I would really like GoW3. Unfortunately, they were mistaken.
I did absolutely LOVE Uncharted 2, but GoW3 was lacking in many ways for me.

First of all, the story was quite flat and there was almost zero character development for the protagonist until the final five minutes of the game. There was really nothing intriguing about the story line (except for his family history) and I kept hoping that the game would actually go somewhere rather than just being entirely about revenge, but I was disappointed there.

The main character, Kratos, is on a mega revenge kick from the start, and this plays out in his often super-violent extermination of the gods of Olympus. I'm not one to be sensitive about these things, but I tired quickly of the "punch" prompt in finishing off various characters. It was just way more than was necessary.

The other major shortcoming to this game was the completely unnecessary level of strong sexuality present in a number of places. It added absolutely nothing to the story, and amounts to nothing more than animated porn. I'm not opposed to tasteful levels if it is part of the natural story, but this was certainly not the case here.

Overall, yes, the graphics were good, and the fighting style decently fun, although on that note the camera was often zoomed too far back to really appreciate it, and you can't control camera angle except in a very few instances.

I played Uncharted 2 all the way through multiple times just because it was so much fun; but I traded in God of War 3 the very day after I beat it. I certainly wouldn't recommend God of War to anyone else.

     Should have ended at GoW2 - Aug 05, 2010

My son, age 17, has been waiting for this game. He has the first two, which he liked. He actually finished this game in 3 hours of play, at normal level not easy. The game was 75% movies and cut-scenes. The battles were boring and redundant. He said that the storyline sucked. The weapons were lame and useless. He said that they should have made GoW2 a little longer and they could have ended it there. No, the makers just had to get greedy and make a poorly designed third installment to get unsuspecting people's money. Kill all the gods, they are immortal and cannot be killed. Kratos' goal was to kill Zeus, but he just destroys everything instead including himself. LAME! If you must play this game, PLEASE rent it first. Do not waste your money on it. My son said that it was the worst sequel in a game sequence that he has ever played.

Never has so brutal been so beautiful. - Aug 02, 2010

This game is awesome! It is easily a contender for best Playstation 3 game. The graphics are about as good as you'll see on any console which is a feat considering the scale of the game. You will see the camera pull away from a full shot for your character to having your character shrink to a pixel as Kratos battles enemies the size of a city. This game is violent and definitely not for younger audiences. The story is good, not great but you won't be disappointed. The combat has been refined even further since GoW2 and is really rewarding. Playing on hard, I had to fight hercules maybe 8 times, but it wasn't frustrating, I felt like each time I failed I was learning, becoming more skilled, and getting closer to beating him and the strategies I learned helped me later on.
The puzzles have been toned down a bit but some of the more devious ones are really interesting.
The music, sound, and voice acting are all top notch, they really reinforce the visuals, whether it's the character performances, the epic scale, or the violence.
In a genre filled with derivative button mashers, God of War III is an amazing achievement in gaming.

     Shock and Awe, Spartan-Style... - Aug 02, 2010

The original God of War was quite an amazing game for its time, and its sequel proved that the series' success was not just a flash in the pan. God of War II brought more of everything to the table, from gameplay to graphics. Since God of War III represents the series' first entry into the PS3, a simple graphics upgrade would have been enough to set it apart from its predecessors...but the game designers were far from content to do just that.

The God of War games are third-person and action-based. In all of them you play Kratos, a mortal who made a deal with the gods, it all fell apart, and now he's out for bloody revenge. You use various weapons and items to accomplish your goal, and as you go through the game you can choose which items to "level up" and make more powerful. Just like God of War II, God of War III has more of everything. Graphics are stunning. The scale of massive, realistic environments and architecture is breathtaking. Gameplay is improved and there are new weapons, techniques, and ways to balance your upgrades as you earn 'skill points' (power orbs). This game was programmed from end to end for the PS3's hardware: it has rich lighting, intricate textures, massive open levels, plenty of physics effects, and in case that wasn't enough, the developers have added the ability to tear apart and disembowel your opponents in the most hideously gory ways I have ever seen. There are effects here that would make the Lord of the Rings movies seem dull and simple, and there is violence and gore to make Tarantino blush. The grandeur of God of War III shows us that a movie might be a step down for Kratos.

The storyline of God of War follows the same pattern as its predecessors: Kratos lost everything, Kratos wants revenge, Kratos has to climb up the celestial ladder to get to the top. Lest you think this leaves the battles as simplistic as the earlier titles, rest assured that on Normal difficulty, some battles can be a nightmare, and took me MANY tries to get through.

There's one huge obstacle with a sequel like this one: you earned a ton of amazing skills and powers in the last game--enough to kill a God of Olympus. How could you start off the new title with all of that stuff and still be challenged? God of War II handled this by taking away all of your powers, and I was worried that I'd be blown completely back to square one. Instead, God of War III handles it well: you lose a lot of your abilities, but still keep some of the most useful ones (for example, Icarus Wings). As you progress through the game you will receive items that change the way you play (such as a bow & arrow or magic boots). Suddenly, using your head and being creative get rewarded. Without giving away too much: there are parts of the game where the environment changes significantly, and moving around in it gets infinitely more interesting. For example, you earn ways to find hidden goodies and you earn the ability to run along walls or move incredibly fast.

All isn't perfect with God of War III. If you pause the game, you may see a 2-3 second "freeze" before unpausing resumes. I've seen Kratos do finishing moves in the middle of the air on an invisible enemy because his opponent died a few seconds ago. These are fairly harmless. Most frustrating is some inconsistency: you're supposed to jump off a ledge, but you can only do so at one particular spot. Or you're walking along a protected edge when you fall off for no apparent reason. There's also a 'musical puzzle' a la Guitar Hero that was difficult to use and didn't really add anything to the game. That said, if you were pleased with the other God of War titles, you will very much enjoy God of War III. If you're new to the series, you couldn't have picked a more stunning place to start.

BONUS TIP: When you defeat Hades and swim the river Styx, don't go downstream right away. Go upstream as far as you can, dive down to the bottom, and you will find a secret item that becomes unlocked when you beat the game. Enjoy!

     OMMFG - Aug 01, 2010

This game is by far the best game i have played so far, I you don't have this, your missing out on something incredible. This game is so amazing your gonna have to play it to get the full effect, words just cant describe it.

     God Of War 3 Review - Jul 28, 2010

God of War 3 was like the 1st 2..LOL.. The solving of the puzzles is the hardest thing about this game.. I had a cheatbook for that tho, so I beat this game in less than two days.. I don't think I got my moneys worth.. Seems like games now days are getting shorter and shorter.. Grrr.. But its still a fun game.. God of War 2 is my fav of the 3...

     Great game! - Jul 28, 2010

This game is a keeper. I usually trade my games after I finished playing with them but this one has a place in my game collections.

bloody hell ass graphic! - Jul 24, 2010

OK, but now I know this game had been reviewed to dead. So here is my take on the GOWIII. The game play and style is very similar to Dante inferno, especially the jump hook. If I didn't know better I would have thought both games are from the same company. The ending seems to elude to GOW IV despite the publisher indicated that this is the last GOW.

Pros: bad ass graphics. The game graphic is comparable to what you see in the movie. It also have a decent story line. The game is definitely a continuation of GOWI and II.

Cons: some puzzles in the game are so dumb and required very good time to succeed. The game have no angle camera at all. Low replay value once you passed the game.

If you are a fan of the hack and slash, this game is worth playing. The graphic alone is worth checking the game out.

Just as fun & epic but not as long as parts 1 & 2 - Jul 23, 2010

This game was just as good and epic as the last two, however, I was disappointed that it wasn't nearly as long as the other ones.
I finished this game (only normal mode though) in about 10 hrs of gameplay (only had problems with trying to dodge Poseidon's lightning in the last phase of the battle, against the scorpion and near the end where Kratos dives down to the judges, I couldn't see where some of the openings to fall through were b/c my tv isn't that great).
Very fun & epic but I was really upset that it wasn't very long. It seemed much easier than the other two also.
I remember the 'normal mode' on the other two games being much harder.

     A MUST PLAY GAME - Jul 23, 2010

To me, this game was one of the best games I've ever played I loved every single detail in it. right now it is my favorite.

Still king of Hack and Slash - Jul 21, 2010

Yes, Kratos is still king of his genre. God of War 3 was epic on every level. The graphics, sound, and action packed gameplay never fail to impress. I played through on Titan mode, which I wouldn't recommend unless you are a serious gamer, and it was one intense ride! The boss battles are amongst the coolest I have ever played. My only complaint about the game is actually about Kratos himself. During god of war 3 Kratos just seems so dark, angry, and grim that he just isn't very likeable. By the end of the game I just couldn't relate to him. My problem with the protagonist's personality aside, this is one awesome game!

     demential game - Jul 21, 2010

Very long, several and diferents weapons, great history, if you have a PS3, no doubt and buy this game

WARNING: This Game Will End Relationships!! - Jul 20, 2010

    My addiction is back!!

Okay...I'm a 30-something year old gamer and been away from the gaming scene since Sega Genesis. Decided to plunge into a PS3 for the Blu-Ray and got a couple of games. Amazon kept 'recommending' GOW3 so I decided to take the plunge after reading the reviews. It felt kind of awkward to me just because of the title. Silly I know. I've never played/ heard of any of the GOW series (so yes, I'm a noob).
This game is probably the BEST game I have ever played. I literally spent the entire of last weekend finishing it. This game is so addictive....not just the awesome action, but the easy controls and puzzles. It took me 2 hours just to get through the 'Muses Song Puzzle'.
Please note....I say the controls are easy, but they're tricky....in order to kill certain bosses (Gods/Monsters etc) random buttons pop up during the fight scene which you have to hit immediately. Yes. Immediately.
I had to Google for the Walkthroughs which helped a lot. The story line is so appealing, it even renewed my childhood interest in Greek mythology and am reading a book on it now. I've placed the GOW series in my shopping cart and just waiting on payday to get it shipped.
After finishing it, you'll want to play it again....at ever-increasing difficulties.
The HD sound on this beast is amazing....crank up your surround sound and sub-woofer and you can hear every bone crunch.
I've heard Assassins Creed and Red Dead Redemption is just as addictive...added to my Wish List.
Right now I'm contemplating whether to play it again or make up to my girlfriend for cancelling our movie date.
