     Great Camera - Aug 24, 2010

I'm new to the DSLR world and did a lot of research before deciding on the D90 about three months ago. All I can say is that I have been delighted with the ease of use and picture quality. One feature that I am especially glad this camera has is the two separate rings for adjusting ap and shutter. It is a time saver and helps minimize the confusion for this newby. All in all, it was pretty easy to learn how to use. There are many options for customizing the controls as well as customizing your exposures. This camera will serve me for a long time.

I would have given this a 5 star review except for the video. I know that it is a still camera and I will be using it for that 99.9% of the time. Nikon, however, did advertise it as being able to shoot HD video. I have no problems with any of the limitations with the exception that it is supposed to be HD video and I've not seen anything close to HD quality as of yet. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

     Wait for the Replacement . . . Or Don't - Aug 17, 2010

I don't have much to add about the camera itself. It is stellar. Image quality and dynamic range are superb.

However, a reviewer below comments that it could be worth waiting for the D90's replacement, which is due out sometime this fall (or maybe later). There is a strong case for not waiting and picking up the D90 now. First, the price may not actually go down that much after the launch of the successor. Like the D40, the D90 is a milestone camera that will likely continue to be in demand even after its official product life is over. The D40, which itself has been discontinued for many months, is currently sold by various sellers on Amazon for a couple of hundred MORE than the last official MSRP. This is simply a function of supply and demand, and the same may be expected for the D90 over time because of how highly it is regarded. Second, while a new model usually has desirable new features - and there is no reason to think the D90 replacement will not have improvements over the D90, especially with respect to video capability - it may be worth waiting for the launch hype to subside, take in a few in-depth reviews, and wait for any initial firmware updates.

In a nutshell, the D90 is a great camera, regardless of what will come after it. Unless more advanced video capability is a must-have, there is not much reason to miss out on shooting with the D90 now.

     Was a great camera ..... - Aug 08, 2010

I have captured lots of images with this camera and its been great from its handling to the high quality low light abilities to its quick 4.5fps speed. This was a great camera. But... a new Nikon D90 replacement will be out in a few months with the announcement coming out at Photokina in Germany 9.21-9.26. So if you are considering getting a D90 this late in the cycle you might want to hold off a few months to see how they improve on this great camera. Check out Nikon rumors dot com for more information. But if you can't wait I am pretty sure this will be several hundred cheaper than the new one coming out although it won't have all the features but still you can't go wrong. I no longer have this camera and am waiting for the update of the D90.

     Love this camera - Jul 25, 2010

Wow! Feels rock solid. First impression says it all. Debated between Canon T2i and 7D. First, T2i feels light, somewhat like a toy camera. The 7D feels solid but not worth the price.
This is my first Nikon DSLR and it's here to stay. Go with Nikon 16-85mm lens and you won't be disappointed! Video at 720p is great as well. Overall, I glad I made the right decision.

     Great Camera - Jul 23, 2010

This is an awesome camera. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a bit heavy to carry around and it does require a great deal of time to learn the features. I am a "Nikon snob" and have an older Nikon 6006 SLR that has served me well for years. Now that I'm retired and have more time for my photography habit, I wanted to move up to a digital SLR. I chose the D90 because I can use the auto-focus lenses I already own. If I didn't already have the lenses, I would have bought the D5000. I also love the HD video ability of this camera. I've only been using it for a short time and the difficulties I've encountered are purely of the "operator error" type. The camera is fantastic! Geared more for professionals and serious hobbyists than amateurs. I love it.

     Bad luck - Jul 23, 2010

Just got back from a trip to Alaska and camera worked about 50% of the time (F-- error on screen; sometimes(!) removing the battery would reset it). Many of the pictures I was able to take are overexposed. Bad camera? Will send in for warranty but that won't undo the lost opportunities, frustration, and aggravation caused.

     Great New Camera - Jul 23, 2010

Great camera. I still have a lot to learn but I just set it on automatic and go. Eventually I'll try all the new features but the pictures are great and the screen on the back of the camera gives you a great idea of how good your picture really is. I'm having a great time taking pictures and driving everyone crazy with Smile!

Nice one to buy - Jul 19, 2010

I am very happy that i bought this camera based on these reviews. Thank you guys for posting such a valuable RFR (reivews for reference)

Nikon D90 into the Costarican rainforest - Jul 11, 2010

For serious amateurs and some Pro's this camera fit with a "click"..., If you love natural photograph or take a walk on the wild side...What are you waiting for...? Buy it, you gonna love it.
And, when you have it, come to Costa Rica and begin you adventure, could be all that you imagined...!

     nikond90 - Jul 11, 2010

i like the camera, initially i had a tough time in understanding all those menu options. But now i am slowly getting used to it. I am able to take good pictures with it.

     D90 is great - Jul 10, 2010

Thought about waiting for the new Nikon's to come out, but the price dropped to $750 and couldn't resist. Glad I didn't. Had the D70 for 6 years now, but needed an upgrade. Twice the camera for 1/2 the price we paid for the D70. Can't beat it. HD movie mode is great, even the sound. Yeah AF would be nice in movie mode, but you can still manually focus on subjects just fine. All in all, great camera.

     Nice one - Jul 09, 2010

I have Nikon 18-200 lens and using that with D-90. I am extremely happy with this combination

OK, so I finally went to the "Dark Side" :) - Jul 09, 2010

Having been a film photographer for many, many years I had resisted the digital age. Certainly they were not comparable to film in their early days of 1 MP cameras. Now it's a whole new ball game. Recently my cameras of choice had been a Nikon N90s and my trusty tank of a Canon F1. I will keep both, but probably not be using them as much. I prefer to shoot Fuji Velvia, and with cost per roll and processing, well, it mounts up very quickly these days. So I recently took the plunge for the Nikon D90 (with the battery grip MB-D80, which I highly recommend). With a 16gb chip I get over 8,000 shots at JPEG, fine quality, small size (which generally is still a large enough estimated print size for my needs; of course you can change the settings for larger printable images). I've had the camera for about 3 weeks, and am still learning all the functions (if you're familiar with normal photographic terms, and even have a knowledge of digital terminology and functions you will not be overwhelmed by the 300+ page manual....but it takes a lot of review with camera in hand to begin to understand what a powerful imaging tool you have). I use Photoshop for digital darkroom post-processing, so I tend to shy away from some of the options and functions that I can achieve afterwards(the D90 allows effects simulating many filters, color and monochrome effects, cropping, tweaking, etc.). The D90 was the right choice for me in wanting to continue to use my AF Nikon lenses, as lower end digital Nikons will work with those lenses, but not in auto-focus mode, and any digital Nikon further up the product line jumps in price considerably out of my present budget. I didn't want to purchase new lenses at this time, and so far am very pleased with the results I've been achieving. It's now a no-brainer to bracket a shot with no worries about how many frames I'm wasting to get the perfect shot. I used to be pleased with one or two perfect shots from a roll, knowing that 34 shots (at film/processing costs) go in the "outtakes" file, while now it's just as simple as erasing the unwanted photographs and continue shooting. If you shoot 40+ rolls of Velvia, for example, you quickly add up the cost to what it takes to move onto digital. I'm not abandoning film, but now I can shoot much more, and much more often to improve my skills, which is the whole idea, isn't it? ;)

     Really good display - Jul 04, 2010

I love the Nikon D90 camera. This camera has a very good picture quality; the photos are clean cut, clear, and very easy to edit in Photoshop. My old lens are also compatible with this Nikon camera. It is also really easy to use, my 11 year old son loves using this camera and he always asks me to use it. I would recommend this camera to everybody.

     Good camera + firmware works - Jun 27, 2010

I used a Nikon D40x for a while and was quite impressed with value for cost. However, I wanted a more capable camera and bought a D90. The first thing I noticed was that in the PhotoShop raw image processing dialog, I almost always used the color temp and exposure settings selected by the D90 on auto. This was quite a change from the D40x where I usually needed to correct basic settings. Another plus was that I could shoot with 800-1600 ASA without serious grain. (I use in-camera noise reduction for high ASA.) This means that I can take most indoor shots without flash especially with VR (vibration reducing) lenses. I also have a Nikon 85mm micro lens and am able to shoot most pictures without a tripod given the possible use of high ASA and VR. In general the D90 does the right thing and I feel comfortable leaving many of the settings on auto. I normally shoot in "P" mode where I can twist a dial to change aperture/shutter speed together and I manually control ASA. Most exposures are done in raw and I use a 16 bit/channel PhotoShop process to prepare and print, typically, to 13"x19" paper. I find that the D90 and DX Nikon lenses are more than adequate for this sized printing. I believe that most prints, even after cropping, would look professional scaled to 16"x20" paper, though I have not tried that.

An excelent quality camera - Jun 21, 2010

-Its not expensive: With everyone waiting for the new replacement by nikon, the price of this superb camera is low for its quality.
-Its versatile: Having an acceptable image at ISO 1600 gives you a good space to choose aperture and speed creatively.
-Its rough made: When you hold it tight in your hand it doesn't crunches or bends in any way, its like a solid one-piece block.
-Its easy to use: Everything is just in place, if you give the camera to someone who doesn't know about photography you will notice that his/her hands fall in the right places of the camera, having everything in reach.
-Its quality made: If you buy a car with a leather interior today, it will still have a leather interior in 50 years, despite all other future cheap plastic cars having newer engines. Same for cameras: new sensors will come, but this will still be a solid camera with good ergonomics, in-body focus motor, pentaprism and a whole bunch of small details that make a difference.

     Unbelievable pictures! - Jun 20, 2010

I got this camera(D-90)from Amazon at a most reasonable price and I just love it!
It's everything that the reviews say about it and more. Ease of handling, many options to choose from, and right-on exposures automatically. You can set the camera yourself or let the auto modes do all the work and the pics come out great! I am very happy about my purchase and recommend this camera to anyone who loves great pics.

I've heard some people complain about the movie mode and the live view and all I can say is the d-90 is GREAT, it's not perfect. All you need is a little time to get used to the new features and I'm sure you'll come to appreciate the camera as I do.

Little things missing to make this one perfect - Jun 18, 2010

The good things about the D90 have been pointed out by many, so I am not going to repeat everything. Don't get me wrong, I love this camera, IQ, sensor, size, and handling are YAY! Commander mode is a nice extra, Auto WB is so good it's worth mentioning.

Here is what I don't like:
    1. The matrix metering tends to blow out highlights, and I really wonder why they set it that way, because the metering per se works well and is consistent.
    2. Flash sync speed of 1/200 is an outdated waste of photons. Seriously, didn't the D70 have 1/500?
    3. Focus fine tuning is definitely missing.
    4. More focus points would be nice.
    5. The autofocus assist is not really intimate. It is technically good, but too bright for most subject's tastes. Maybe it could be pushed more towards the far reds?
    6. Chromatic aberration correction works great - why not in RAW?
    7. No flash sync port (PC or audio).
    8. The sensor for the infrared shutter release is in a bad location, the shutter release mode should also not switch back to default automatically.
    8. Video, LV, GPS port and all the dummy modes are a waste of weight and button space. This camera would be better if designed like a photographer's camera.
    9. I believe if Nikon would build larger viewfinders for DX, fewer people would still carry full frame cameras. Please make it bigger! (I also miss split screen focussing screens from film SLRs. Can't they be included in DSLRs to allow precise manual focussing?)

The D300s has some of the things I am missing, but it in my opinion it is too big and too heavy considering it basically offers you the same images.
But in summary, you cannot really go wrong with the D90.

Update: KatzEye makes split prism focussing screens for DSLRs. Not quite cheap, but brilliant! Manual focussing is possible again!

     UPS - Jun 11, 2010

I am going to stoip using Amazon if I have to go through UPS. The are the most stupid people in the world. I have a camera in transit. I ordered a wide angle lens at the same time and I have it. The camera came to Houston day before yesterday and instead of sending it here they sent it to Mesquite...I mean WTF? Why would anyone send a [ackage...especialIy a fragile one, 200 miles in the WRONG direction? should have my camera and be using it now...with the lens...YOu can do better!

     Nikon D90 DSLR - Jun 02, 2010

Absolutely phenomenal DSLR. The sensor is more sensitive than a D300 and the camera body is much lighter. If you don't need a lot of whistles and bells, why get a D90 instead of a D300? Beats me!

     Awesome Nikon D90 - Jun 01, 2010

This camera is everything the reviews say. It takes fantastic pictures and is easy to use. Anyone wanting to upgrade to a more versatile and powerful camera should consider the D90.

     Nikon D90 Review - May 29, 2010

Advertised as new and it is in very good shape but with 31,000 pictures already taken it does not qualify as new.

     Excellent Camera - May 25, 2010

I am extremely satisfied with the D90. I've long been a happy Nikon customer, and it was definitely time to upgrade from my N65 to a digital SLR. I've had it for about a month and have already taken more than 1,000 shots. The best thing about this camera is the editing features. I like minimal editing on my shots, and I can do everything I want before the photo even gets to my computer--change the lighting, add a filter, crop etc. I was also thrilled to save a few hundred dollars and use the lens that came with my N65. It works perfectly. I'm really impressed with the low-light shots I've been able to get. This camera uses every bit of light it can find and produces crisp photos when I was sure I'd get a blurry mess. I would definitely recommend the D90 if you are in the market for a digital SLR. You won't be disappointed.

     Nikon D90 - May 25, 2010

Picture quality is amazing capturing every detail. I really like the large LCD for quickly reviewing pictures. Dials for changing settings are easy to use. Only complaint is that there is no auto focus in movie mode. Other than that I'm 100% satisfied!

     I LOVE MY NEW DSLR - May 22, 2010

I love my new Nikon D90. It is not overly large and cumbersome so it is easy to take wherever you go. I had already owned a Nikon SLR camera so the lenses from this camera easily fit my DSLR which was a great savings. It is incredibly easy to take tons of pictures...download the good ones and delete the not so good ones. This camera also has a video option which I plan on using in the very near future. I am just a beginner photographer so I am really looking forward to trying out all the options this camera has to offer. So far it is very userfriendly and takes fantastic pictures. I am totally impressed and would definitely recommend this camera.
