Nice simple portable video camera - Aug 18, 2010

I got this camera to film my kids who are always doing something cute. The best thing about this video camera is the size and easy of use. I can very quickly pull it out and start filming. The price was right at under $200.

The only issue is the battery life. If I take it on a trip and don't have a computer top charge it, it seems to die before I even fill the memory. This is will some replaying. There is not way to charge it without USB, so if you are on vacation and don't have your computer, it isn't ideal.

Besides that, I love this camera for how easy and affordable it is. It is in my pocket where ever I go when my kids are with me.

Flip is great while it last, then it's over. - Aug 13, 2010

This is my second Flip Mino. It is the perfect mini-camcorder except for the fact that it cannot be serviced once the battery dies. Good thing I discovered the Square Trade warranty!

     Two down in a year - Jul 26, 2010

Bought this product for my wife as a birthday present. It died within three and half months. Sent it back to the company for a replacement - that went without a hitch. However...it has now died again - 12 months later. It won't turn on . I have tried resetting it per customer service - to no avail... Time to try a different company.

     Broken after a year - Jul 18, 2010

It wasn't all that great to begin with but now it doesn't even work properly. It records horizontal bars over the picture. In short, it's useless.

While it worked, it wasn't all that great. Picture quality was so-so. I find other products just as easy to use. I'd recommend a Sony cybershot with camera and video and a much larger view screen (Mino screen is tiny). For that matter, all you have to do with most cameras is put the storage card in a memory reader ( e.g., SanDisk ImageMate All-in-1 Flash Memory Card Reader) and connect it to your computer and it will read the pictures.

In short, Mino has a terrible view finder and mediocre picture. To add insult to injury, it does not last long.

     Nice little camcorder - Jul 10, 2010

I got the chrome model and that was a big mistake.. fingerprints, fingerprints, fingerprints! Like the way it worked, but not sturdy enough for my taste and no underwater capability unless you buy the special case. The "flip" usb is great for not having to worry about a cable to upload. I did return mine and got the Kodak Playsport for the durability and underwater feature and it's great.

a small high def piece of heaven - Jun 26, 2010

This thing is so amazing! I was really overwhelmed by the small size and the very light weight of the camera - so much so that I was a little skeptical about the quality I would get from such a light - almost plasticky, toy-like weight of the product. I knew that the quality would be pretty good cause I have 2 colleagues who use them for work and another friend who uses them to film their kid and have seen the quality. Seeing is believing! Features are few, but that makes it extremely easy to use. I down graded the features because I wished the zoom function could be better. Also image quality downgraded because I think the actual video that is recorded cuts the bottom of the image by just a sliver when compared to the image seen on the camera during recording. Overall a great buy! I will be using it record video for teaching some how-to classes as well as for research.

Nice camera while it works... dreadful customer service - Jun 24, 2010

Nice little HD camcorder while it works...

Flip customer service is just dreadful. I bought this via an amazon.com deal of the day as a family gift before the holidays. Therefore some time elapsed before the gift was given on Xmas and then more time elapsed before we used it.

We found that the camera is very handy in that is fits in your pocket and the video quality is good. However it is quite awkward to plug the camera directly into and out of the USB connector of a PC and the USB connector is quite fragile and easily broken. A USB extension cord is a must. Apparently Flip does offer a repair program - at a HEFTY fee - but there is a long, tedious process required to use it. We've been going back/forth with them for MONTHS and now have a price and an RMA number but are still waiting for shipping instructions.

Camcorder dies permanently. TERRIBLE SUPPORT - Jun 16, 2010

It was great for awhile. Portable video that looked clean when using a mini tripod and filming in sunlight. Video by hand is incredibly shaky... you really need to be steady. Video indoors or in low light is very grainy. That is the good part.

The bad part is that the batteries died and the camcorder will no longer turn on. Flip's suggestions do not work (holding the power button down for 10 seconds, pushing the reset pin, etc). They told me that the unit is defective and cannot be replaced or repaired since it is out of warranty. Great service for a $230 product!

If you want something that will last you 3-12 months (I believe warranty is only 90 days) which you can then promptly throw in the trash and replace, then this is the product for you. If you hate the fact that an expensive electronic device can completely fail and then have ZERO support from customer service... THEN PLEASE BUY A PRODUCT FROM A COMPETING COMPANY.

Ok in theory, but the quality and tech support are terrible - Jun 14, 2010

I had the flip mino hd for about a year and a half before it stopped working. This camera really seems like a good idea, and it is easy to use when it works, however both mine and my brothers no longer charge. If you do a search on google you will see this is a common problem. Even more frustrating is that their tech support is awful. The only thing they would tell me is to plug it in and if it wasn't charged in 24 hrs then there was nothing they could do since it was out of warranty. No matter how good of an idea this is I would not recommend such a low quality product to anyone.

Flip will not replace the battery when the product is out of warranty - Jun 11, 2010

After getting numerous inane responses online I called Flip support and they tell me they do not do any - I repeat any - repairs on Flip video cameras once they are out of warranty. The battery on my Flip Mino HD now lasts about 5 minutes and Flip will not replace the battery even if I am willing to pay for it - the camera is about 18 mo old. They will not even quote a price for a repair. This does not appear to be a strong vote of confidence in the product.

Jim DeCicco - music and video producer review - Jun 09, 2010

i have used the flip in several environments, as a producer in music awards events and in and around hollywood for various candid content gathering. i found the flip to be very convenient to pull out at a moment's notice and shoot. a mic input would really help - maybe a wireless attachment with a mic. the device is a great addition to the creative community here in hollywood and everywhere. definitely a device to have on you when you are not carrying anything else and would like to have a threshold professional camera to capture spontaneous content.

Nice camera until it breaks - Jun 02, 2010

I bought this camera back in Dec 2008. Used it a few times and was really enjoying it. The picture quality was not fantastic but it was so easy to use. This last Christmas I went to use it and the battery was dead. I plugged it into my pc and nothing happened, it would not charge. No matter what it tried. I decided to write Flip. Well after 6 months of emails and failed attempts to correct the problem and after contacting Amazon I was basically told I was screwed.

Mine died and Flip Support does NOT CARE - Jun 02, 2010

I loved my Flip, told my friends about it, got at least 3 others to buy one. There were limitations I was willing to overlook: had a few "hiccups" downloading and charging using my Macs, largest picture size still rather small, etc. It was easy to carry with me to capture small moments in the life of our small ones.

After downloading videos in April after Easter and trying to charge my Flip, the battery drained the camcorder WILL NOT TURN ON (plugged into a "weak" USB port -but software does not warn you this could be problematic). Having been in customer support myself and being somewhat tech savvy, I patiently went through the entire support process to basically be told "Tough luck. Warranty is up." This is not what I expect for any product over $150 and I don't predict a bright future for Flip with this sort of "support."

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. Buy yourself something more tried-and-true from a more established, reputable company. Or just film with your iPhone (lots of great apps for this). Either alternative will save you money and heartache.

     DON'T BUY THIS CAMERA!!! - May 25, 2010

I've had this camera for a little over a year and it stopped working entirely. It would no longer accept a charge. After this happened I called the company on 2 separate occasions and talked to 2 different representitives, to no avail. Nothing that was recommended worked on fixing the camera. Upon further research, others were having the same problem. I am very dissappointed in this purchase.

Defective product Buyer Beware - May 16, 2010

It is obvious what you get with this camera. Recording a notch over a good cameraphone with HD. However, the product has a 90 day warranty, and it *will break*. If you search the internet/amazon for "minihd won't turn on" (for example) you will find issues and issues. DOA, repeatedly freezes up, and a lot of "died in 4th/5th month". The product is crap and not worth a penny. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a class action lawsuit over this one. Good marketing, crappy product.

Great while it worked - May 15, 2010

Used and enjoyed the Flip MinoHD for about year until it up and died. Was using it successfully, shut it off, tried to turn it back on and nothing. Tried resetting it (there's a button inside the tripod attachment area at the bottom), but no luck. Tech support said that there was a known problem getting the Flip MinoHD to charge with Macintosh computers. This was the first I'd heard of that and I'd been charging successfully for over a year.

Given that there are virtually no moving parts in the thing, I'm rather at a loss to figure how it was damaged. Static electricity charge is all I've been able to come up with, but if that's it I certainly didn't notice it at the time. The Mino just stopped working.

At any rate, I expected a much longer lifespan than I received from the device and I would not buy another as a result. Great while it worked, though.

     I liked it. - May 02, 2010

Good product. Easy to use and no need to set-up.
One trick of it, is that it can suddenly limit its record time to 1 minute or two. You have to save your video somewhere else and delete all in your flip folder and on flip to free the space. It takes me almost two months to find it out from Flip CS.

Stopped charging when I needed it the most - Apr 30, 2010

I bought my flip camera a year ago and liked it pretty well, although for a long time I really didn't have all that much to do that needed it. I futzed around with it a little and got some decent material, most of it the video equivalent of snapshots, and learned a good bit about its limitations in the process (the "zoom" makes things super-grainy, the inability to manually adjust lighting or color balance means you don't always get the colors you're trying to capture, but sometimes means they actually look even better than on other cameras, and so on). No big deal; I'm a film/digital media student and when I need better equipment I can borrow that from school anyway.

Then I started working on a small documentary project, about an animal rehab situation and a young squirrel that's being raised for release. Given the animal's sensitivity to strange objects around it, there was no way I was going to get usable footage with big video gear, and the flip image would decent enough for it. So I started recording the footage with the flip camera.

First, I'm annoyed by the misleading advertising for the camera. It says you can record 60 minutes, but my camera always stopped recording, claiming it was full, after about 51 minutes. NOT helpful when you're trying to plan for how much material you can shoot in between offloads and recharges... even if you're just shooting vacation footage or something. When you're working on an actual video project, it can be a nasty surprise.

And then the battery died. After I'd shot about four hours of material on the camera (and maybe a total of two additional hours' worth of material in the last year), I plugged it into my computer, offloaded the latest round of videos, and noticed that the "charging" light wouldn't come on. When I unplugged it a few hours later, the battery was still in the red. Naturally this happened halfway through my documentary filming, and I'm scrambling to make arrangements to use someone else's camera to finish things up, hoping I can either borrow someone's Flip (and try not to kill it, too) or get another system that records in 720p and produces similar enough results that it won't be obvious I changed cameras!

What makes this camera badly-designed is that when the battery dies, the camera dies. You have no way to pull out and replace the battery yourself, and there's no way for a repair technician to get in either. It's designed NOT to be repaired, but way overpriced for a disposable camera. Since it's been more than a year since I bought the camera, it's well out of warranty, so I'm out a camera until I can afford to buy a replacement (which, obviously, will NOT be a Flip). When I divide up the amount of footage I was able to produce with the amount I paid for the Flip, it was not a good deal at all. I should have saved my money and spent it on a sturdier product... and I recommend that you do that instead of wasting your money the way I did.

     Fantastic! - Apr 30, 2010

I bought this for my hubby (who isnt the most tech savvy person in the world, but who am I to judge, right?) and it is perfect for him! The camera fits right in his pocket and stays there until he needs it. The features are very user friendly, the picture very clear, battery life pretty decent. No complaints! Very recommended.

     I wish I had bought it earlier! - Apr 25, 2010

When my twins were born 16 months ago, I wanted to have a new camcorder to save all the beautiful moments with them. I don't know if there was FLIP on the market at this time, but nobody had told me about it. So i bought another camcorder and I had a hard time to convert the videos on my PC in order to see them and I couldn't share any videos with my family and friends. And I thought it was small!
Now I have the FLIP and this is the best! I love my FLIP! It's so easy to use and we were amazed about the quality of the videos! I just wish I had had it earlier!

     Love it!!! - Apr 21, 2010

It is so easy to use and has amazing picture quality. The upload to the computer is hassle free and easy to use. With instant uploads from your computer to Facebook, it can't be beat. I would recommend to anyone.

     Perfect for grandparents - Apr 10, 2010

We bought this camera to record our new grandson. We were looking for a camera that was easy to operate and download movies to our home computer. It is so easy to use and being able to upload videos on the internet is a plus because we can now share our videos of our grandson with friends and family. I suggest getting the tri-pod. That makes it easier to hold steady for us old folks.

Do not disregard the negative reviews. Read before buying - Mar 21, 2010

I thought this camera was a great idea. I thought it would serve me well and would come in handy. I saw the reviews and thought the average was good, didn't really think much about the negative reviews I saw. I bought this camera for myself for Christmas and used it for about a month around the holidays. Then I put it away. Today I got the camera out to record my daughter's dance class. The screen was busted from the inside out, even though it has been sitting untouched for about a month. I just got off the phone with their costumer service and it's one of the worst I've ever spoken to. All they did was try to blame it on me, saying I somehow sat on the camera, stepped on the camera, left it in the heat or something else that would clearly indicate my fault, not a crappy product. I even offered to send the camera in for analysis, to prove there was no physical damage to it. While I was on the phone with the guy, I decided to come back to Amazon and actually take time to read the bad reviews and realized I should have listened. I see why people are complaining about their costumer service and I see how many people said the camera did not last long. This is a disposable camera and will likely show some kind of problem after a little use. I am deeply disappointed, both in the costumer service and the product itself. I thought this would be a great reliable product, especially after hearing so much about it. Now I realize it's just a cheap product put in a pretty box. This company has a lot to improve if they want their costumers to stick around. I'm not sticking around, never buying a anything from them again. If you are reading this and the same happened to you, I'm so sorry. This really sucks. If you are reading this while looking for a camera to buy, know that this one hundred something dollars you are going to spend on this will only get you a cheap product that will likely stop working after a short period of time. Now I know there is a good reason why they only offer a 90 day warranty.

Wow! Just out of the box! - Mar 18, 2010

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3TDGZ0COWGFJ7 I ordered this video camera about three days ago. It left Phoenix and LA, and arrived in Bangkok and then Chiang Mai in just about three days. This video is my very first, straight out of the box, created with the software provided with this tiny little HD camera. Needless to say, I am impressed!

     Great Product - Mar 18, 2010

Very easy to use and a great product to keep on you at all times.
