Starting up can seem like a slow business, particularly if you're in a hurry, because the GPS receiver needs to know exactly where each GPS satellite is to calculate your location. But satellites only broadcast their positions once every 30 seconds. So if any of their signals are interrupted--for example, by passing high buildings--the whole position-fixing process has to repeat itself again and again until the perfect fix is achieved. QuickGPSfix takes a smarter approach.
QuickGPSfix can speed up the time it takes to fix your GPS position by downloading the latest satellite data via an Internet connection. Just connect your TomTom device to your computer, and TomTom HOME automatically downloads "QuickGPSfix"--a special GPS data file that helps your TomTom fix your position quicker, even when the GPS signal is weak or partially blocked.
This unique, free service--which comes as standard with the GO (920/720/520/910/710/510) and ONE (XL/New Edition)--helps you fix your position and get navigating faster than ever.
On the road or no access to TomTom HOME?
Get the same "QuickGPSfix" data by simply connecting to any TomTom PLUS service, using a wireless data connection (GO 920/720/520/910/710/510 and ONE XL/3RD EDITION and 2nd Edition). As soon as a connection is established, the "QuickGPSfix" data is automatically updated.
Note: QuickGPSfix data has limited validity. So to keep on getting a faster position-fix, re-connect your device at least once a week.
To minimize the amount of data sent over your wireless data connection, this automatic update is only carried out if the data on your device is over 5 days old. The associated data usage of this service is less than 10 Kb per connection. Please contact your mobile service provider to determine the exact costs. To disable this automatic update, just select ‘Disable Auto QuickGPSfix' on your TomTom device.

messed up tom tom 330s - Sep 01, 2010
I bought this item didnt even have it a week and it was messed up it was a degree off on the mph for example i was doing 55mph and the tomtom 330s said i was only going 54mph also it would not store the address for everyting put one in it wasnt there and my destinations wernt right neither. so i got a replacement form amazon.com but when i opened it up and turned it on there was a message saing no map found it and on top of that it had softwear for a tom tom 325s installed in it and it wasnt the right model to it was a 325s in a 330s box all i know is it was really crazy so now im getting ready to return these two and im wating on the third one hope that there is nothing wrong with it when i get it .
a true bargain! - Aug 30, 2010
I've had several brands of GPS and I have landed on TomTom as the easiest to use with the added benefit that it also finds the signal the quickest ... by far! I already had 3 of them, me and my college aged twins before I bought this one for my Mom. I gave it a spin myself and it works great and for the price you'd be hard pressed to find anything even half as good.
Undra's reviews - Aug 25, 2010
Was very pleased with TomTom XL 340-S 4.3-Inch Portable GPS NavigatorYou should get one bought a used at this price before that wasn't as nice as this one i just received
BIG MISTAKE - Aug 23, 2010
I bought a TOM TOM GPS for my mother - over 70 years old. It didn't work - right from the get-go. Every time she tried to plug in an address it would direct her to Busch Gardens. I told her to return it - and the TOM TOM people refused to take it back - forcing her to spend two days in reprogramming the thing over the internet. Since my mother is not exactly a techie - it was a tortuous process that convinced me NEVER EVER to buy a TOM TOM product again. They don't stand behind their garbage and force all the inconvenience and time consuming adjustments onto the consumer. Why do you think they're selling all those refurbished units??? Because they didn't work in the first place.
BUY A GARMIN - they're MUCH BETTER.
TomTom xl 330s - Aug 23, 2010
TomTom XL 330S Review..
I recently purchased this, factory reconditioned NAV device at Amazon for $68usd. When I connected it to my computer, I was advised that the map was not current and the upgrade time had expired..
Local POI,s....................
My first trip with this NAV was to a street address in Las Vegas, the NAV worked flawlessly on this run..
I live in a small town 110 north of Las Vegas, I checked for local POI's and found no Gas stations, we are on U95 a major route to Las Vegas, and have 2 very busy gas stations (they have been here for many years), one has a Pizza shop which is shown as a restaurant POI , but no gas POI..
The other gas station has a casino with a restaurant POI, but no gas or casino POI,s There is a Beauty Shop here, no indicated POI. There is a local POI shown for Death Valley National Park Info Center that has been closed for two years..
NAV System...................
I have just returned from an 1800mile trip to Crescent City CA. thru the Redwood Forests..
During my run the NAV advised to exit and then get back on the road I was traveling.. I was quite familiar with all the roads I was traveling and soon learned to ignore the "get off at next exit" instructions.. Other than these strange instructions, I thought the NAV worked OK, until on my return trip with route programmed to Reno NEVADA, I was leaving Susanville, CA when the NAV instructed me to bear left to head North to U 395 North with destination showing as 156miles to go.. I stopped and checked the map on the NAV unit and it showed the correct route to Reno.. I turned the NAV off thinking it would reset itself, but to no avail the NAV kept instructing to "turn around" and go North on U 395.. I stopped in Reno where the NAV showed the destination to still be 167miles..
I cleared the route and set a new route to Carson City, and the NAV worked OK again.. After a night's sleep in Carson City I programmed a route home.. For the most part the NAV worked OK with only a few strange instructions on my 350mile trip home..
Features..........................
I really like the overspeed warning from the NAV- A+
Warn for Gas Station.. I turned this off the first day, it made me crazy in metro areas, also identifies some gas stations that are not there, and does not identify some that are- D
Resturant POI,s I found no failures, a great feature- A
Miles remain to destination- A
Bearing indicator- A
Windscreen mount- A
NAV system: I think this unit would work fine in metro areas..
As I said in the beginning my unit is a factory refurb..
I have had great luck with refurb electronics in the past..
This unit may have been sent in for the Brain scramble problem, and I don't know if lab testing would reveal a problem like this.. Other units may be flawless, but for me I give it a- D
The default voice (Samantha) is difficult to understand at times..
It is a nice toy but reliability of Navigation not to be trusted for me, My paper maps will be on board at all times..

Tom Tom GPS - Aug 15, 2010
Great unit for the price. It's factory refurbished but don't let that bother you, it looks and works just like a brand new unit. Tom Tom has actual live in the hide people to help you if needed.
Not as expected - Aug 09, 2010
below are the features i am missing in this unit which i had in my old MAXX gps navigator.
1.the route calculation is very bad. I know my home is about .25 miles from an intersection but this gps will take me 1.5 miles to reach my home from that intersection.
2.if your destination in on your left most of the time it will calculate the longer route to bring you to the other side of the road.
3.POI category for restaurants will not categories based on the type of food (like mexican, italian, etc).
4.map browsing while navigating is not easy.
5.if your are entering or leaving freeway it will not say enter or exit free way. instead it will just say keep left or keep right.
i am very much disappointed.
Save your money! Buy a Garmin! - Aug 06, 2010
As someone who has owned Garmin devices over the last 7 or 8 years (and tried a TomTom before), I went against my better judgement and purchased this TomTom unit. I sadly have almost no good things to say about the device. The suction doesn't stick well to the windshield, the refurb unit won't update to the new map even though TomTom swears by their 30 day guarantee, it has taken nearly a month from purchase to get customer service to even respond to any inquiries, the screen is not as bright/vibrant as my comparable Garmin and a significant portion of the screen is taken up by the extraneous information (this doesn't seem to be the same with the Garmin unit).
All in all, I'm pissed. I knew better, but the refurb price got me. Don't let it get you, spend the extra $10 or $20 or whatever and buy the Garmin, you won't be disappointed.
Tom Tom - Aug 05, 2010
The Tom Tom XL 330S is a great device for the price. I use it on a daily basis for work and am very pleased with the ease of use and how convenient it is. The recent destination feature is great for recalling past destinations that you need to return to. It saves time by not having to reenter an address a second time. The voice that talks to you can be a little annoying at times, but is tolerable. Overall, I rate this product very high.
Review of refurbished tom Tom - Aug 03, 2010
I wasn't looking for a top end navigator. I was just wanting a GPS that would do for a couple of years until smart phone apps get to the degree of sophistication I'm looking for. The only fault I have with the unit is that the description included indicated that it had the capability of exchanging information with Google map application. Documentation indicated that it also had free updates to maps. Updates are free, but new major updates are available that is an extra cost item. Over all I am happy with the product.
works good - Jul 27, 2010
the tomtom works great especially for the price. It's my first gps so it was a great deal.
Affordable and it downloads latest maps too - Jul 22, 2010
1) It ships alot faster than 1-2 months. I ordered it and it shipped in less than a week. I did the free shipping
2) I installed TomTom HOME and it recognized the 330S and downloaded the very latest Map Updates from TomTom no charge and no hassle of calling Support to request an update!
3) Unit arrived in new condition, packaging is new, product was new, no stickers or signs that its refurbished so if you are planning to buy it for someone you don't need to worry about it saying Refurb.
Refurb TomTom - Jul 22, 2010
When first received the GPS would not operate properly. This is the only refurb item I have bought that wasn't in A1 shape. I called TomTom and they assisted me in totally reformatting and reinstalling software. It now works great and I love the larger display. I also have a TomTom One (3rd Ed.) with a 3.5 inch display and the 4.3 on the XL 330S is much easier to read.
It's old but ok for the price - Jul 19, 2010
The map is outdated. I paid $79 for the GPS and downloading a new map costs $59.95. So I didn't download a new map. Once a while, it gives me a wrong direction when I go to a new place. Otherwise it is ok for the money I paid.
Great features. - Jul 12, 2010
I was truly impressed with the features of the TOM TOM. I had a NEXTAR and the TOM TOM was far superior. I look forward to using it form a long time.
Better units out there for the money-Don't use in DT chicago - Jul 12, 2010
This unit was used to replace a garmin I bought at Costco a few years ago. I wish I would have stuck with garmin.
This unit can be time consuming to program. I hate the POI names don't have the address just the distance. With my Garmin if I knew for example I wanted AVIS on a certain street and typed in avis it would show the street name in the list and would pull up the phone number. With the tom tom I have to estimate the distance and select it before I can get the street address to make sure I have the right location.
Sometimes the unit takes a long time to reset and find a signal. I was in LA 2 weeks ago and when I left the hotel to return the rental car I was ready to throw the unit out. I had the above mentioned problem of finding the correct avis location in the POI list. Once I did I couldn't get a signal between my hotel and the AVIS location. Luckilly I have been in LA several times on that route and rememberred how to get there or that trip would have been a real nightmare.
I also would avoid this unit if you drive in downtown chicago. In may, I was staying in the loop and some of the streets are on two levels and the GPS couldn't tell which level I was on, and it took me over 20 minutes (I had to finally ask someone directions) to make what would have been a 3 minute trip if the GPS could have told my elevation.
Also this unit doesn't have lane assist and is a real pain if you need to do a detour.
I would buy another brand GPS. There are better brands ou there for the same amount of $.
Tom-Tom great - Jul 11, 2010
Received the Tom Tom travelede from Phoenix, Az to New York. Not one thing went wrong, alldirections were correct and a greatinvestment.
Please ask for map update! - Jul 02, 2010
As everyone else said, just ask TomTom customer support for a free map update. Tell them you get a message that unit is out of "1 month map guarantee" but you bought it just few days ago. CS rep will talk to supervisor and ask for the receipt. Send them a receipt and they should give you free map update. Understand that TomTom is doing you a favor because refurb units do not have map guarantee so be polite and considerate.
Other that that, this GPS has everything I want for $75. Good user interface, Text-to-speech, offline route planning.
Good but not the best - Jul 01, 2010
Well, if you are looking for a GPS with basic features, to ensure that you want to navigate from A to B. Go for the refurb price of amazon, it is the best.
If you are already a GPS user and want to upgrade , please stay away.
Now let me tell you the good points about it :
1. Best price from amazon(refurb)
2. Navigation is OK and it will give perfect route no issue
3. Easy to use
4. Touch screen features are good and easy 2 use menu
5. having whole lot of POIs packed.
6. Alarm system of Speed exceed, nearby schools, traffic cameras are excellent(though calculation of schools are not correct)
7. Rerouting is good.
8. It has text 2 speech , very easy 2 understand.
Now the -ve points.
1. Latest Map Gurantee : Firstly as you will be buying a refurb one, have 2 spend couple of times calling the call center of TomTom asking them 2 update the latest map in your system.
As per policy Tom Tom will not provide you LMG for the Refurb materials, but call several times and tell that you have purchased it from amazon, they will need the receipt, fax it or send by mail. you will get the latest map.
2. Poor screen navigation - Once you were planning some route and you wanted to navigate to other screen all gone, restart.
3. To and From address entry is prinitive in nature. Even if you know the street name and number you have 2 enter the City first, so say if you know the cross street even, if you dont know the exact ity you are gone.
4. No option for avoidance of FREEWAY,SURFACE etc.
5. If you are very familiar with google map, you will have a tough time .
6. Screen navigations are poor
7. Rerouting is slow.
But above all if you want it for basic purpose , this is the best value for your money.
Excellent value for the money - Jun 24, 2010
The unit is pretty much ready for use right out of the box. However, to get it to do exactly what you want, you will need to fully understand some important features it has. For instance, before we learned about "travel via" feature, we took the unit to Shenandoah National Park (from Apex, NC), the unit mapped a route via Richmond, VA - a much longer route than we thought. So, we tried to figure out how we could find a short route and came upon "travel via", which worked just as we expected. You do the following:
--- Use "navigate to" YOUR DESTINATION, then
--- Select "find alternative" and use "travel via" to the next CITY CENTER you want your trip to pass through
--- When you get near the CITY CENTER, you can enter a CITY CENTER after that
You can use this approach for as long as you want, but we found once you do this for a couple of times, you should be on your intended route with no trouble. When you initially map your route (if your default setting is on "fastest route"), the unit apparently chooses "interstate freeway" first, then when it couldn't find interestate freeway, it chooses major "state route". Alternatively, you can set your unit to "shortest route", but it doesn't always choose the same route you have in mind. In this case, the "travel via" becomes very handy.
The instruction that came with the unit is too simple and doesn't offer what I explained above. You will have to figure it out yourself. Once you are familiar with its many functionalities, it is very good unit for the little money we paid for.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to spend a little bit time to learn how to use it.
Don't waste your time and money - Jun 22, 2010
I have had this product (new) for a couple of weeks now and I am very, VERY disappointed in it. It has frozen up at least a half dozen times due to lost signal and/or when trying to reroute and says it is not possible. On a route I know very well from Reading, PA to Buffalo, NY it tried to take me over 100 miles out of my way; when I tried to reroute that it said it could not. If I could I would throw this in the trash, it is useless. My Magellan 1200 worked 1000% better than this piece of crap and it is around 4 years old. I will never buy another tomtom product again.
noy good - Jun 21, 2010
i ordered not one but two factoryed refurbshed tom tom xl330s and both would not allow you to update the map they would erase the old map but wouldnt put the new mapon there leaving you with a empty gps buy new at least it will have current maps
GPS - TomTom XL 330S - Jun 15, 2010
So far so good. We bought this item to drive home from Florida. It navigated us around all major cities which was great. It did however, lock up a few times and had to be completely reset. That was a bit of a frustration. All in all, it gets me to my destinations and recalculates well when I take different turns.
TomTom Review - May 03, 2010
I just want to comment on Tom Toms customer support team. I had some problems getting my 30 day free map update guarantee to download into my unit and they stepped right in and made sure that I was able to get it. They answered my email messages in a very timely manner and really seemed concerned about my problem. They were great.I will be sure to recommend Tom Tom to all my friends.
A great product - May 01, 2010
I am a Tom-Tom fan...so pretty easy to please with a Tom-Tom. The only issues are that you cannot store enough addresses and there is a bit of a lag between touching the screen and it registering that you touched it. You have to be careful not to get impatient and touch it twice as it will advance past the point you want.
