Highly recommended for amateur photographers - Aug 29, 2010

I would like to recommend this camera for all amateur or professional photographers. I have a similar camera to this one and I have no problems with it. The wide screen is pretty awesome!!! I have been using these cameras for Praise/worship services, they do a great job serving its purpose. Clear pictures is what you really want and the still photos are also very good. If you get the battery that holds 248-250 minutes you have made the right choice. You can easily set your camera at the LP mode and many times you will get an hour of recording instead of 30 minutes. When I purchased this camera there were many negative reviews about this camera, but so far I have all the praise for this camera. Great camera to put inside your pockets without having to put into a case. Will enjoy this camera for many years to come.

Me no speaka the language! - Aug 24, 2010

Bought this camcorder for my wife to use primarily. We have a new baby so I wanted something easy to use and that would provide quality recording. Not disappointed there. The only problem was the initial use was at other daughter's sweet sixteen birthday party. Since my wife had not taken it out of the box yet I was hurriedly trying to get it set up to film the festivities. Unfortunatley, the default language setting was Spanish!! The instructions in the manual were incorrect so it took about thirty minutes of trial and error button pushing to get the settings to English. Besides that little problem this camcorder is muy bueno!

     Sony Camcorder - Aug 23, 2010

once I figured how to work all the buttons it was easy to use..they need to be more specific on the instructions the Camcorder works like a dream...needs a larger battery for extended taping time

     LOVE IT!! - Aug 11, 2010

I love this camcorder because I don't like to spend a lot of time figuring out how to work anything. I got it set up in the car on the way to visit family so it would be ready. Very easy except it came set up in Spanish (what is with that). Better check on that before they are sent out is all I can say. Otherwise it is very easy to use and makes great videos.

Lovin it so far. - Aug 07, 2010

Love the camera, the battery life and the ease of use on most features. The only downfall is the finalizing discs before you can watch on a dvd player. The true test will be at the beach later this summer. Great camera for the price!!!

Great camera for the price - Jul 22, 2010

I bought 8 of these cameras to use at a conference that I manage each year. We video instructors "practice teaching" and give them a disk to take home so they can watch themselves and see what (if anything) they need to improve). The cameras were very easy to use. The only problem we had was with the long time it takes to finalize each disk. Next year, we will use two cameras in each room so that we don't have to wait for one to finalize before taping the next instructor.

I brought the camera home for my husband to look over before I started using them. He is very picky about his electronics and he loved this camera. The size and weight are incredible and he thought the picture quality was very good. He did mention that the picture does get grainy when you zoom - but he also said that is to be expected.

All in all, we thought it was a great camera for the price.

     themeatnpotatoesofitall - Jul 18, 2010

Received camera quickly, thanks annil,. everything works great,..I suspected people that some thought might be required in the application, com'on people just read the operating giude..(little Book)..and everything will be alright..thanks again ANNIL & Amazon..TA!! DA!!

So far so good - Jul 15, 2010

Took a lot longer to be delivered than anticipated (about 2 weeks) and when it arrived it was programmed for Spanish and instruction book was also in Spanish. Downloaded an instruction book and all is fine. Have only used the camcorder a couple of times but so far it's working great, easy to use and pictures are perfect. I like that you can use a disk that can be removed and placed right in your dvd player without having to download/upload.

     Sony Handycam model 308 - Jul 14, 2010

I bought a Sony DVD video camera model 308 2 years ago. I contacted Sony and they want $171.00 to repair it.My question is has Sony improved the quality enough to buy another one. What is the best Sony I can buy for about $500.00.

     Very pleased - Jul 07, 2010

The only drawback I've ever found with this product is the lack of night lighting/flood light.

Other than that, I love this Video camera.

     KBryan - Jun 13, 2010

I like this Cam. It is much less than they were 10 yrs ago and do much more.
The touch screens are great. The Disks and memory cards work easily with my computer, which runs Vista home prem. I spent about $450 if we include 2 cards, 3 disks, extra battery and a case. I think it was a good deal. Next the tripod.....

     A great camera! - Mar 14, 2010

I bought this camera about five months ago, and I have loved it ever since. I am a fourteen year old movie making fanatic, and I have taken videos, with this camera, of everything around me. It is very simple and easy to use, however; it has many features to improve the movie making experience. I almost bought a "flip" camera before, but now I'm so glad I didn't. I was pretty disappointed with the editing software (not that I was expecting some amazing software) because really it doesn't do anything. I have yet to figure out how to burn a DVD(I don't think my laptop has a DVD burner) but I am still delighted with my purchase.

     SONY Handycam Camcorder - Feb 27, 2010

    Good Product.
Simple and easy to use. Captures and records images with great resolution for a camcorder that is not high definition.
The battery could last a little longer, but the product is very good.

Unable to rate, was purchased as a gift. - Feb 12, 2010

Delivery was exactly as planned, no problems. The person I purchased it for seems to like it.

     I love this Camcorder! - Jan 17, 2010

This video camera is exactly what I was looking for. I am not someone who is good with gadgets and technology. I wanted a camcorder that would be easy to use, and easy to play back my videos. I didn't even need to read the directions to figure this one out. You put the mini-DVD in, press record, and you're good to go. Then when you want to play it, you just eject the mini-DVD and play it right in your DVD player. My #1 consideration in purchasing a camera was that I could easily record my family and then just as easily share the videos with others. I wouldn't know anything about editing software or special features, but for us, this camera is perfect. The picture quality is also very good, and the camera is small and easy to carry around.

     Can I use a memory stick? - Dec 17, 2009

I HAVE THIS SONY DCR-DVD650 SONY HANDYCAM SINCE LAST SUMMER. I LIKE THE CAMERA. i WOULD LIKE TO USE A MEMORY STICK, HOWEVER THE MANUAL CLAIMS I CANNOT USE A MEMORY STICK ON THE 650 BUT ONLY ON THE 850. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF I CAN USE A MEMORY STICK AND JUST HOW TO DO IT? THANKS.

     What was missing.... - Dec 15, 2009

Overall the product is good...easy to use. Like the DVD feature. However, what about a flash or light???? You always need a flash...or a light. I returned one recorder because they said the DCR - 650 had a light capabilities. And it didn't...so very disappointed in that. Also, the lense cover has to be manually opened & closed....which sometimes I forget before starting to record. And actually...the lense cover that opens has broke....now...thank goodness it broken on open instead of closed. Overall....wish I would shopped further...in fact, still within 90 days...might return.

Beware getting ripped off on Amazon accessories for this camera - Nov 18, 2009

I purchased this camera yesterday and signed up for Amazon Prime for the free shipping. Today I logged on my bank account on line to see if Amazon charged my debit card for the correct amount. I was astounded to see they charged me $8 for a Belkin cable for the Sony camera and $16 SHIPPING. So much for free shipping. Even if I hadn't signed up for Amazon Prime I would not agree to pay $16 shipping for an $8 item that weighs 2 ounces. When I called and complained Amazon said I can return the merchandise but shipping charges are not refundable. So I just got ripped off for $16 shipping for an item I can buy at WALMART for $9.

     Disappointed - Oct 22, 2009

Every review I've read has said that this camera has great picture quality, but I've found the quality to be so poor it's almost unbearable to watch the videos. Unless I'm doing something wrong and have the settings on my camera set up incorrectly, the video is just so grainy and so is the pictures.

     Randy Turner - Oct 17, 2009

Recording on the disc is simple, play back was easy, but soon after playback on my TV the disc returns to set up for a new recording. I am unable to view my recordings the second time or to transfer to my computer. I am unhappy with the product I purchased

Probably would not buy again - Oct 05, 2009

It seems easy enough to use, but I am not impressed with the image quality nor the disk burning. You have to be extremely careful with the disks to not get them dirty or scratched----with kids this isn't always the easiest. I am not excited about the fact that you also have to buy the internal card from only Sony for a mere 50-100 dollars a crack. I have a lot of trouble with the disks skipping and altering the voices too. I am going to try and return it.

     Poor audio quality - Oct 04, 2009

I bought this to record my son's rock concerts. I'm giving this item 2 stars because of the very poor audio quality...I would give it 1 star but the video quality is OK and I understand that not everyone buys a camcorder for its audio quality for recording loud events.

It is fine for very low volume live venues with no drums or bass but is horribly distorted when the volume goes up and/or there's drums or bass.

I tried everything in the manual, including the "low mic" setting and recording in the highest quality...I even located the camera in areas furthest from the speakers and nothing improved the quality...truly useless audio.

I contacted Sony and was simply told to "reset" the camcorder and if that doesn't work I would need to send it to them for repair. I tried the reset and it did not improve.

I suppose this camcorder is suitable for recording Christmas get togethers, graduations, and quiet vacations but it didn't work for what I bought it for. I'll stick with my old VHS-C Panasonic workhorse, which has never let me down.

    The Sony is being returned.

     Excellent.. - Sep 20, 2009

We love to cruise and I wanted something to capture the experience, without have any computer skills to speak of...
I wanted something to just record and play on the DVD and this was great. Very simple to use, just record and play in the DVD player. Excellent picture and sound!
I also bought the case and extra Sony DVD's, again excellent!

     Sony DCR/DVD 650 - Aug 28, 2009

This camera does a great job of capturing video immages. While there is a lot to learn with all the functions it has, and the accessories like memmory stick can cost a bit. The qualuty of the images you get and the software supplied is fairly easy to use once you use it a few times. You can spend more and get a camera with more functions, but why would you want to?
