     Quite impressive! - Sep 01, 2010

I was a bit reluctant to buy this at first, but after reading so many reviews from Amazon buyers, I decided to go for it. After it arrived, I was very impressed with how easy it was to use it. It is as good as any portable GPS I have had. And yes, it does loose the signal, I can live with that rather than getting lost. I am very happy with the purchase and it was well worth the money spent. By the way, it arrived very quickly and I was very pleased with the short delivery time.

Nice improvement over the 350 model - Aug 29, 2010

I've had a Nuvi 350 model for a few years which worked well, but this 1330T has some nice improvements:
    - The screen is bigger and brighter and has a wider viewing angle so my passenger can see it.
    - The upper left corner shows the miles to the next turn and whether left or right turn - very helpful. This also shows multi lanes and which to be in.
    - The traffic antenna is built in the power cord, so no extra wire required. I buried the power cord under the dash and on top of the radio and it still works.
    - The sound is much louder and easily understood.
    - The arrival time box can be changed to miles to destination which is more helpful for short trips.
The only thing I do not like is the power cord is plugged directly into the back of the 1350T, so to remove it from the cradle, you have to disconnect the cord as a 2nd step. However I permanently wired mine to a 12 volt source under the dash so I won't be taking it out often anyway.

     Extremely pleased - Aug 22, 2010

This is a fantastic GPS! Screen is a great size! Features are easy to use and the battery life actually holds a charge, unlike a lot of other models our there. I highly recommend this make and model to anyone looking to get a new GPS!

Nice Nuvi, great price - Aug 21, 2010

Bought the used Nuvi and it arrived on time and in perfect shape - just as advertised .

     Garmin Nuvi 1350T 4.3" Automotive GPS Navigator - Aug 21, 2010

    The good:

This is your standard Garmin. Gets you to places, points of interest, where am I, add favorite destinations to list, etc. It has an automotive and pedestrian mode. I have yet to test the latter. Points of interest is not as complete as I would like it to have been but its pretty good if you have no idea where to get services.

It has some kind of memory card slot and a picture viewer but not blue tooth. For that, you need to buy a 1390T or higher model.

Initial turn on, and home location registration were all easy to setup. You don't need a user's manual to get started. QWERTY keypad works well to accept destination inputs. Jill's voice is reasonably loud and clear in a moving car. Satellite lock is good and quick in a car. Don't expect it to work miracles in your garage or a parking structure in case you decide to do your route planning there. Physics does not support it. The suction cup and clip are flaky at best. Get the bean bag.

Things for Garmin to work on:

This gadget is bulky. It feels warm to touch - a bit warmer than I would have liked. The touch screen behaves badly when trying to recenter maps, zooming in, etc. If you expect iPhone type fidelity on the screen, this gadget will disappoint you. The last issue is definitely something Garmin ought to examine. Perhaps, the more expensive models have better touch screen response? I don't know!

Bottom line - well worth the $150 I paid for.

     piece of junk - Aug 16, 2010

I tried two addresses which are real addresses of businesses that you can find on google maps. The Garmin was unable to find either location. Touch screen was very difficult to use. Some buttons were completely frozen.

     Just Take a Map Instead - Aug 14, 2010

Pretty much a piece of J-u-n-k!
    1. Gave my home location as an address of a street 1/4 mile away.
    2. Drew a non-existing "side road" it said I was traveling while I was actually driving a marked road; the blue line remained on the map even after I turned it on an off several times.
    3. Failed to locate a point of interest about 3 miles from my location, noting that the closest one similar to it was 212 miles away. Failed to recognize the point of interest when I was sitting it its parking lot.
    4. Zoom out/zoom in feature is a major headache to use.
    5. No USB cable included.
    6. No real owner's manual included.
    7. Unit wouldn't read the topo map card I had purchased for it; customer support wanted me to call in and wait 1/2 hour for help.

    8. Probably the worst thing: Ease of use = 0 stars. Swiping feature to make map move failed to operate about 90% of the time. Keypad keys' sensitivity is so awkward that if you type in the middle of a key, you're likely to get the action from the key beneath it. For example, when I'd type on the "space" key the "done" key would light up and consider the job done. The screen would change to a search screen but the GPS would only be searching a partial address. Since the keys are so close together, you have to do a lot of deleting, and that key doesn't always work when you press on it.

All in all, the only thing this thing did that a map doesn't is to frustrate the heck out of me. I sent it back.

     Cheap Garmin electronics - Aug 02, 2010

This item failed in under one month of very minimal use. It now just flashes the Garmin logo in some type of endless loop of code. So now I get to send it back to Garmin if they respond to my email request with an RMA #. Seems like pretty flimsy electronics in these devices. This is my first GPS purchase and unless I just got a bad apple it will be my last Garmin device.

     GOOD PRODUCT - Aug 01, 2010

EXACTLY LIKE PROMISED. WORKS WELL AND EASY TO USE, COMES ON QUICK UNLIKE MY PREVIOUS GARMIN WHICH TOOK YEARS TO GET SATALITE CONNECTION

     Very good GPS - Jul 28, 2010

I love how easy this GPS is to use. The display is very good to read. I'm still not sure how to use the traffic feature.

     Works great - Jul 23, 2010

Bought this for a road trip and we used it everyday. We were able to drive around in towns we had never been to without using a paper map or asking for directions. We also used the point of interest feature to find food, lodging and attractions. It worked perfect every time. We bought the one with the traffic feature but I probably wouldn't spend the extra money next time. Ads occasionally pop up on the screen when you are stopped. This is slightly annoying but since it only happens while stopped it is not a hinderance while getting directions.

     Great deal! - Jul 20, 2010

I have really enjoyed my Garmin - we just received it a few weeks ago, and it works great! I haven't had a chance to play with all of the features yet, but the quality is excellent.

Great GPS with some Niggles - Jul 20, 2010

    Pros:
    Big Screen
    US+Canada Map
    Traffic info
    Lane assist
    Text to speech

    Cons:
Traffic delay time estimate was off at times.
    Touch screen wasnt calibrated.
    Speaker cracked at max volume.

We took this recently on our Pacific Northwest trip to BC and Washington State. It worked fairly well. I bought it mainly for its features set. Maps were fairly accurate, only missed 1 location, but it was a pier and im pretty sure addresses for large locations are usually not acurate, just like looking for a park, it might not have exactly what youre looking for. I liked the text to speech on the Nuvis more than the Tomtoms because the pronunciation is more consistent even if it is robotic. Lane assist helped alot, but be prepared ahead of time always as sometimes ramps could be short and you can easily miss it before the gps could recalcuate in time. I like the routing on the nuvi more than the new tomtom iqroutes. I like the fact that i can preview all my turns and not rely every second on the gps. Traffic info gave alerts, those were useful. I didnt find the delay timer very useful so i usually turn off the "avoid delays" feature in routing so that i could stay the current course even if it means traffic. Most of the cons could be easily worked around. I did a quick google and recalibrated the touch screen and it was much more responsive. the QWERTY keyboard layout should be avoided as the buttons are too cramped for the lcd. routing was fine, comparable to my old Nuvi 200. The device is fairly well rounded, not the best of breed, but its a solid gps system. I would take this system over one with BT since I do not have the gps out all the time so the bt would be useless.

     Garmin nuvi1300 series - Jul 19, 2010

My hubby loves his gps and it is the best purchase that we've ever made.

A GPS so easy, even your technology-challenged spouse can use it! - Jul 16, 2010

My wife was starting a new job 30 miles from home, and would need to navigate some serious traffic, especially with the drive home. I thought the Traffic feature of the Nuvi 1350T may help ease the stress-level. Good call -- She LOVES it!

At first she did not trust the inconsistent routing, but quickly came to learn that this little gizmo really knew what it was doing. Once the Nuvi earned her trust she began to rave of the clever routing that allowed her to bypass highway backups. She was also pleased to learn some new routes that she would have never tried on her own. This has been a real time-saver for her... and best of all, it did not involve any "technical support" from me!

The Nuvi 1350T is one of a very few electrical gadgets that my wife finds agreeable. The only problem she has had to date is that if froze-up one day, and she could not find the on/off button to reset. I showed her that evening, and she has not experienced the problem since. I did read some comments about these devices having trouble connecting to the satellite. I found it took a few minutes when initially setting up the GPS, but no biggy... and it was a one-time event.

    Thanks Garmin!

     Garmin nuvi 1350T - Jul 16, 2010

I've had this a couple of weeks and have only used it once in circumstances where the route was completely unfamiliar to me. It worked very well. I did notice that it seemed to have a problem showing a correct direction when the vehicle was in a parking lot. It made the assumption that I knew I was on Route 133 and that Route 133 was not Main St. Not always a correct assumption in small towns.
Set up was pretty simple. The screen brightness is very good. I have mine at about 50% and it's very readable. I have the volume at 50% as well and have not had any trouble hearing it while driving. The voice is clear and understandable with just a couple of odd pronunciations. I haven't used the traffic feature. The instruction booklet that came with the device is a waste of tree and the Help button is also not that helpful. The format for finding answers is not easy to use on the move. The menu is pretty easy to figure out and planning routes is also fairly easy. I like the intersection feature.
This is my first GPS so I have nothing with which to compare it. I have not experienced any of the freezing problems that have been reported elsewhere. Overall I am satisfied with the performance of this product.

Follow up review to: routing is a problem - Jul 14, 2010

I decided to followup my ealier review with an addendum. We have just completed a 5000 mile trip with this GPS. I would still say it would be nice to be able to program in a specific route, downloadable from Google. However, during our trip, only a few times did this matter, and this GPS does provide the capability to set an intermediate destination, and that often solved the problem. Also, what we did was reprogram the route throughtout the trip. So computer uploadable routing was not as essential as I thought. Having said this, I have other specific comments:

    1) The traffic feature was mostly useless. Only once, near Seattle, did that provide useful information. Throughout the rest of our trip, we never once received a traffic bulletin. You probably don't need this feature for a long cross country trip. Ifyou stick to a large metro area, it miight have more value, but I have read from other reviews the traffic advisories are often so out of date that it isn't worth rerouting.
    2) The GPS was amazingly accurate nearly everywhere. We encountered one instance of the address being on the wrong side of the street in Durango, CO.
    3) Once or twice it placed us on the wrong street parallel to us. This was not a major problem.
    4) In Canada, we switched to metric, and frankly, it seemed the metric distances to turns were more accurate than the distances expressed in miles.
    5) I don't know wheher this is adjustable, but it would have been helpful to adjust the point at which a warning for a turn was announced earlier. At 75-80mph, the turns/exits race up fast, and often the warning was only just sufficient, and sometimes too late.
    6) Occaissonally, but very rarely, the GPS became lost, and recommended we take a route that we clearly didn't need to take. If this happens to you, just wait, and the GPS will announce "recalculating", and find you are on the correct route after-all. Usually this happens in cities. It wasn't a big deal; we found it amusing, and we would all sing out in chorus with the GPS "RECALCULATING".
    7) I bought the Vancouver, BC City guide for use with this GPS, However, it seemed of no use whatsoever. It was supposed to have city speed limits, and didn't, and as best we could see provided no useful additional information.
    8) On the USA map, one of the most useful features was the speed limit. We traveled though some rural speedtraps (speed limit fluctuated quickly several times over short distances), and this GPS saved us from a traffic stop when other vehicles were being pulled over near us. Again, no help on this in Canada, despite having the city guide installed.

Overall, I would recommend this product. However, you might want to consider a model that gives automatic free map updates. We installed the latest update, and after a long 5000 mile trip, I could easily see from the GPS correctly identifying recent road construction that such trips would demand fresh updates for future use.

    here is my old review:
I am a user of GARMINs going far back, well before the nuvi series. I bought this unit recently because my older unit (the eMAP) was functional, though essentially obsolete because maps could no longer be updated. Before I review on the main feature that is troublesome on this unit/series, I have to say that the whole nuvi series is too confusing. Garmin needs to drastically reduce the number of offered products that differ only subsets of features. It makes purchase of the device unnecessarily complicated. I would recommend to Garmin to reduce offerings to perhaps three models.

One of the most powerful features of my eMAP was the ability to upload routes from the computer. The eMAP didn't autoroute, so this was necessary. However, this suited my needs. It appears to me that the current nuvi series no longer has this capability. One can upload a single destination point from Google maps, but NOT the route. You still have to use the unit auto-routing. As many of you have found out, this often doesn't route the path you would like to travel. Auto-routing is useless to me. Anyone with experience of the older GPS models have learned that being able to select the route is much more useful, especially if a very complex route is required for the trip. If you KNOW one road is better than another, why shyould you be subject to auto-routing to the road you don't want to use? GOOGLE maps give you the powerful capability to drag to a specific route, but the nuvi doesn't.

I tried working with GARMIN on this. I found their support site to be slow to respond (nothing different there from my eMAP experience). In addition, the tech just didn't understand the question (simply "How do I upoload a route from the computer"), so I got multiple answers to questions I didn't ask. The issue is still not resolved, though I plan to keep up the inquiry.

I have to tell youi that while the eMAP didn't have a touch screen, was not in color, and didn't autoroute, it was in my opinion a far more powerful device than the current nuvi series. The inability to download routes from the computer (particularly GOOGLE maps) is a major weakness of the nuvi series. I am not sure that other makers offer this feature, but for my next GPS purchase, I will definitely be looking beyond GARMIN.

     It's like getting glasses when you're vision impaired - Jul 14, 2010

I bought the Garman nuvi 1350T hoping it would help me navigate a city with roadways that I have not always mastered. The price fell within my modest budget, it was not a challenge to learn to operate and install and, so far, the device has performed as advertised. It has taken most of the guesswork from my commutes. It's given me no reason to complain.

Reliable GPS that's Easy to Learn - Jul 11, 2010

I got this in anticipation of driving in France and Italy this summer, along with the data chips for those countries. I used it in the US for a few weeks before leaving on my trip. Everything worked as expected and there were no startup hassles. It is easy to learn how to use it - much easier than the GPS built into my former Toyota Camry. The Lane assist, where available, is especially helpful. In France and Italy, there were no startup problems, and the data was quite comprehensive, making it easy to find hotels, museums, and other attractions, both on foot and in the car. There were a few limitations: (1) The screen should be a bit brighter for use in strong sunlight, but it is usable as is. (2) In general, GPS does not do well when driving in narrow streets lined with tall buildings that block views of the sky. (3) Some of the European data (especially for Italy) was not completely current. For example, we saw clear signs to a new autostrada connection but the GPS directed us onto a circuitous route through a medieval village. After getting bogged down in the village, we reversed course and went back to the clear autostrada signage. When we followed that, the GPS showed that we were driving through a roadless area and told us to drive to the indicated route to resume our trip (with no clue as to how to get there). This is where you need to use common sense and follow the new signs. Eventually, when we got on the autostrada, the GPS recalculated and everything was fine. Even with these limitations, it was well worth the money.

     Good but limited - Jul 08, 2010

I own a Garmin Quest, which I dearly love, but the screen is too tiny for my eyes, the map capacity is limited, and it does not speak street names. The 1350T is easy to use, the screen is easy to read and address input is great. It is fast to boot and accurate. I installed updated maps and software in a breeze. But there are several things to be desired.
First, the traffic. It's not the unit's fault if the information is not accurate, but it tries to completely re-route a 300 mile trip because it shows a severe delay 100 miles down the road. Re-routing by taking an earlier exit and going a few miles before re-entering the freeway would be so much simpler. The traffic info has been accurate just once in the last month. I think I would have been happier skipping the feature and just getting a 1350.
Second, the owner's manual is totally inadequate. Thank goodness for the FAQ on the garmin site. The Quest has a totally complete owner's manual. It's a bad area to cut corners.
Third, the recalculation in city traffic if you miss a turn is very slow. You usually are past the recommended turn by the time the new directions come (at least that was true in Atlanta).
In summary the basic features are quite good. But the traffic shortcomings and the slow route recalculation in city traffic keep me from giving it more than three stars.

Nuvi 1350T traffic did not work at all - Jul 05, 2010

The summary: Bought a Nuvi 1350T and tried unsuccessfully for two weeks to get the traffic data downloads. Never worked and after a call to garmin support, we are returning the unit.

    The longer story:
We once owned a Magellan and then bought a Nuvi 660, whose maps are out of date and the traffic/power adapter will not charge or power the unit. We really liked the 660 and are quite familiar with the traffic reporting. So we thought we would "upgrade" to a 1350T. After several years of technical "progress", we expected a better unit for less money. No so.

The 1350 seems to acquire satellites slower than the 660 and the touch screen is at best erratic. I updated the the software immediately after registering it. Sometimes it takes several touches for a character to take and sometimes the wrong character appears. I understand from other reviewers this is endemic to the evolving series due probably to cost-cutting on displays.

The traffic receiver simply did not work. I tried it in three different cars in the NY, Washington DC and Ft Lauderdale areas over two weeks. The LED on the receiver never registered other than RED. After 35 min. of waiting and 20 min contact time with a Garmin tech support guy, we determined the receiver had to go back.

The lack of information on the relative power of the various models is disheartening. There is no way to whether the newer model is really better the old model it supercedes. Is the processor more capable of calculating routes faster? Can the unit acquire sattelites faster? How do the various model line really stack up? Besides the IPhone-envy packaging, is the new line really an improvement over the previous models?

I would like to buy a Garmin but am puzzled as to which one to buy.

Never ask for directions again! - Jul 05, 2010

I know, guys don't ask for directions, only women do! Well, this little unit is easy to use and it keeps you from asking directions. Get used to the fact that at times it makes you seem to go the long/wrong way, but when set on the "fastest route" it picks a slightly longer but faster route considering the speed limits on streets it puts you on. All the neat little features and custom settings are fun and relatively easy to use, and the only one I haven't seen work is the updated traffic reports, haven't been on a highway or toll road yet. One thing I've done is to begin loading all my friends' and family's addresses as "favorites" to use it as a portable address book. I found that when someone called on my cell fone to see when I'd arrive, I turned on the unit and it gave me a good approximation, barring any unknown traffic jams. My unit was a refurbished one, but it looks and acts like it was new. Delivery was fast, service was excellent!

Freezes and shuts down! - Jul 04, 2010

My first Garmin 1350t would shut down after about 10 to 15 min of use. They sent me a referb and on my last cross country trip it shut down twice. Both at key times, once when I had to call my husband at 5:00 AM in order to get directions. I love how it works...when it works. I would never buy another Garmin due to reliability. I never know when or where it will just quit leaving me stranded in the middle of my trip not knowing which way to go. I still have to make sure I have the paper maps when traveling. This is not why I bought a GPS.

     Garmin - Jul 04, 2010

This was pretty much what I had expected. The only thing I would say I dislike is that you can't click on one individual road to avoid it. You have to go to major highways and say avoid highways. Maybe there is a way to do this and I just haven't figured it out yet, but if there is it's not apparent.
