Canon's CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. Its APS-C size sensor creates an effective 1.6x field of view (compared to 35mm format). Canon's DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically speeds up all camera operations for intuitive operation and offers improvements in both fine detail and natural color reproduction. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel T1i's image sensor to achieve unprecedented levels of performance in all lighting situations.

    DIGIC 4 Image Processor
With the EOS Rebel T1i, analog to digital signal conversion is executed by a 14-bit processor, which generates digital data with incredibly smooth tones. A feature that originally appeared in top-of-the-line pro digital SLR cameras, the 14-bit conversion gives incredibly smooth transiti

     Holy Moly!! - Aug 29, 2010

I only buy things with good customer reviews, but I never tend to write them. With this product, I have to. WOW! I am BLOWN away by this camera. I got this for my photography class for college and I figured since I was spending a lot, might as well go for it. This camera has surpassed every expectation I have and is completely worth the money. Especially for a newbie just starting out, it's great.

    I HIGHLY recommend it.

     solid camera - Aug 17, 2010

This camera is so nice. It's going to last a long time. I am in high school (almost finished) and I love using the camera. It's a bit big and heavy, so it's not that easy to carry around. I use it around the house mostly but I've only had it for like a month. Obviously I am going to bring it on trips and stuff. But it is heavy. Also, the kit lens is not very good but I would say if you just want the camera, don't worry about all those other lenses. Buy them later and save your money now. The kit lens is adequate. I personally LOVE the video setting and would recommend this over the Nikon D5000 which is like the comparative Nikon one. I feel like this IS more expensive though. I guess you get what you pay for. Anyways, the video is high quality and allows for unlimited shooting, which is amazing. You just need to get a lot of memory card space. Soooo pretty (the video quality). I also love the navigation of the video. Read the manual because it helps understand the camera. It's actually like professional level. Real nice, I would recommend if you're looking to invest in a good, solid camera.
    *Some more things
The ISO goes really really high which is perfect for low light. I got some BEAUTIFUL colorful pictures in the evening of my dog on the porch, and the photo looked even prettier than the porch/dog did in real life. The colors that turned out in the picture were blues, purples, pinks, and yellows, and it wasn't even that bright outside in real life. That is what a high ISO can do for you. I don't even worry about the supposed "noise" that happens when cameras use high ISO, because there is no noise on this.
Also, I went around to test the lens and noticed that it does close-up really nicely. You can get really close and see detail, which is my favorite part of photography. Therefore, again I would say just buy the kit lens because it's good.
Another thing about this camera is how it can pick up on colors that you might not have noticed in real life. For instance, once I turned on this pink lamp I have, and took a picture of something in the foreground (not the lamp), and saw that in the picture there was a pink glow from the lamp that radiated throughout the room, and a blurred pinkish, splotched sort of pattern that was interspersed with a few other colors that showed up in the background. I was pleasantly surprised.

     A Really Great Camera - Aug 16, 2010

I've had this camera for about a week and I have to say I'm more than a little impressed. I bought just the body as I have several Canon lenses already. I find the camera easy to use and not uncomfortable for my type of shooting. Some have said they find the grip just a little small. I find it to be quite comfortable so far. (I played football and boxed, so my hands are somewhat stiff and a little torn up.) I like the Main Control Wheel on this camera much better than the SX10/20 series. I have an older A2E and the wheel is similar. I was very frustrated by the SX10's wheel. I've used a 35-70mm Canon lens and the 100-300mm telephoto with exceptional results. (I tried contacting Canon about 2 weeks ago about using the older EF lenses with this camera. No answer from them to-date. And yes they work perfectly.) Some people call this an introductory camera. I don't think that classification does it justice. I started many years ago with a little 35mm Pentax, moved up to a Mamiya RB67 2ΒΌ format, then a Hasselblad. I've won some awards and shot many a cover in my day. I left photography behind for many years, job, family, etc. One of the truths I've personally learned is that almost any camera can go beyond the "beginner" title if the person behind the viewfinder is willing to put in the time. I am NOT saying that I don't appreciate the more sophisticated elements that higher price cameras afford, just that to make really good photos doesn't always take real fancy equipment. I love really good equipment, I just think that people shouldn't think the camera is the ONLY variable. Clyde Butcher roams the Everglades with his large format cameras and stick to poke alligators on the nose so he can get his shots. Ansel Adams did not know anything about digital cameras and some would say he was a fairly good photographer and he even gave us the Zone system. And Stephen Frink shot some really incredible underwater stuff with a Nikonos underwater camera, which has never been known for its exotic capabilities other than being able to go deep underwater. Point being, these guys learned about photography, lighting and composition. Do those things first. Remember, a camera is light gathering device. If you can see it through the viewfinder, then you can find a way to record it.
And this camera makes it so easy. I find that the automatic mode is fine for a lot of quick shooting. But if you shoot in bright sunlight, I find that with Canon lenses, it's best to set the exposure control down by 1/3rd of a stop.
But this mostly a personal choice. The camera itself is absolutely wonderful. Balanced, easy to use and fast. Read the manual. I'm not kidding. Read it with the camera in front of you. Then study and shoot. Another good piece of advice I received when I was starting out was find a picture you like and try to shoot the same shot. Things look different through a viewfinder. Once you can duplicate with some degree of accuracy shots you like, you'll find your own work getting better.
Sorry if you were expecting a more traditional review, but I thought something should be said about the photographer using it. As for video, I don't use it unless some guy is yelling "Don't tase me bro!" If you want video, get a video camera.

     Purchased as a back-up - Aug 13, 2010

It's getting used just as much.

One heck of a take-everywhere camera with a small prime or zoom.

    5/5

     good quality product - Aug 13, 2010

Bought it because we will have a baby. It works great, and the quality of the pictures and videos are pretty. For daily use, it is the best one we ever had. Video function is especially useful, and works great in dark light.

    Like it very much.

     Great Value for a Newbie - Aug 11, 2010

For my birthday I received the T1i with 18-55 & 55-250 on this site at an amazing price. I admit have always been a point and shoot gal but to get a good picture with two little ones I needed something faster. Love the HD video (I have no room for extra gadgets) and fast shutter speed! Recently I purchased the T1i guide by Jeff Revell (a must have for a newbie like me) and I am getting some fantastic shots! I can't wait to pull out the camera each day and learn something new!!! The photo quality seems fantastic but I admit have no history with DSLRs. It was tough to beat the value in this price range!

     Awesome!!! - Aug 09, 2010

When i got this camera I started taking oictures right off the bat. I already have a flash for it and it works great. I took it to parties and people keep asking for me to take pictures. I now take pictures of flowers and other things. This is my first camera and it's the best.

From Great to Best! - Aug 04, 2010

A cuple of years ago I bought the Canon 350D also known as Rebel XT and loved it from day one. Now I'm the proud owner of its bigger brother the Canon 500D and I'm still in love with Canon and with every single improvement that they did. HD video, high ISO sensibilities, and so on, make the T1i a great camera for a very accesible price. I'd surely buy it again.

Very good camera at a reasonable price - Aug 04, 2010

I bought this camera about a month ago now, I also got the Canon 55-250mm lens with it. They are amazing, I took them on a trip to Colorado where we were going into the mountains. looking at the pictures when we got back, they were amazing! It has amazing picture quality. When we went on the trip, I had only had the camera for about two days, so I wasn't experienced with it at all. I had no problems learning how to use it at all, It is really quiet simple to use and pretty user friendly. The image stabilizer is a very nice feature, it works very well especially when zoomed in a ways. I would definitely recommend this camera if you are looking for an slr.

     Perfect Pro/Am Camera - Aug 04, 2010

I love the features and customization. This replaced my Canon 35mm SLR bought 12 years ago, and like the rest of the world, I can't believe that anyone ever used film!
Picture quality is excellent, focus and frame rate fast, design and screen are easy to use.
Do not be lured by the HD video option. This will not replace a good video recorder. The system will not focus automatically, and the motors & drives make such a racket that any sound in the video is lost.
If you want a great DSLR this is the best for the price!

     Great Camera! - Jul 29, 2010

This is a great camera and worth it. The brochure is very easy to understand and instructions/information are clear. I recently used for my trip to Mount Rainier and Olympic national parks and I am really satisfied. For those who wants to learn photography, this is the best camera to start with.

     Awesome camera!! - Jul 27, 2010

    Love this camera!
I believe this camera to be my best purchase in years. I have discovered a new way of taking pictures and made some great memories over the past six months and plan on taking a lot more in the future.
I am totally new to the SLR world (coming from a Sony T100) and learned to use the basic functions on this camera in less than a day. I would recommend taking the time to read up on the features(focus on aperture, exposure and how to switch features). The site [...] would be a great start to learn about photography in general.
The picture quality is awesome and the videos are great. They are clear, sharp and the colors are popping really well. The kit lens is OK for outdoor shooting but not the best for low light areas.I have found the 50mm 1.8 to be the best ever lens for less than $100. Takes great pictures indoor and outdoor.
I have seen some complains about the video feature and I have to say it is not that much of an issue. Just learn to manually focus and develop your pan mouvement. Nothing is made perfect in this world so you need to adapt :)
The features are really easy to understand on this camera and the buttons are well placed no matter what your hand size is. My wife has small hands and can use the camera with no issues.I shoot both in RAW and JPEG and I have learn to do post processing to add my own effects to the pictures.
I would recommend getting a good case ( I purchased a Zing case on Amazon), some lens cleaning gear to carry and take care of the lens.
Buy it spcecially if you are new to the SLR world. Good value.

     Don't expect to take video - Jul 22, 2010

I'll be returning this camera because I was hoping to take video but it doesn't auto focus! That's major. I'll just find a good camera and buy a separate video cam.

Took Fantastic Photos For TWO Days, then DIED - Jul 20, 2010

This was my first SLR camera and I was delighted with it, the photos it took and the deal on the extra lens. Unfortunately after a little bit less than two days of photos, the camera will not turn on with a full battery charge and a memory card with plenty of space on it. When the battery is inserted, a little blue light blinks on and off and that is the extent of the function of the camera.

The battery was fully charged overnight and the camera let to sit with no battery and no card in it but the next morning the same thing happened. A look around on other online forums seems to indicate this is more than an isolated incident with problems powering up the camera. For now, it will have to be the trusty Panasonic Lumix hand held camera for the rest of the trip. After all the hoops to jump through to get a camera delivered while on vacation to have it just stop working after 2 days is very disappointing.

It does take great photos when it works but to die after just two days is totally unacceptable!

     Canon Rebel Camera - Jul 19, 2010

Great camera, pretty easy to get used to, picture quality is excellent, you need to also get a UV and polarized lens for better quality pics

     Great Camera - Jul 16, 2010

I received this camera as a Christmas present and upgrade from my Canon XTI. What a treat to use. I have yet to find anything wrong with this camera and have used it to take pictures from grandkids to birds feeding in my back yard and have been pleased with the results. I usually use a Tameron 18 -270 mm lens or a Sigma 18 -200 mm lens both of which are image stabalized. Since I am retired I have lots of time to play with the camera and have not had a bad picture because of the camera. The pictures taken at the zoo were amazing in color, clarity, and detail. The HD video capture works great and produces very good pictures. While they are not as good as my HD Video Camera, they are still worth while and enjoyable to watch. If I had to take one camera on a trip, this would be the one I would take. The quality of both the camera and the pictures it takes make this the one to own.

     Awesome camera. - Jul 16, 2010

Well, where do I begin. I have owned this camera for the past 8 months and have just realized I never made a review for it. This is of course my first dslr. My first impressions about the camera weren't that great because at the time I still did not know fully how to use a dslr so i was doing everything in automatic mode which I know now is a big no-no most of the time. But shortly after I did teach myself how to do everything in full manual mode and I have to say the pictures come out very clear and sharp and will only have a lot of noise if I shoot in low light with a very high ISO like 12800 but most photographers should already know that's whats gonna happen plus I was only shooting that high of an ISO because I like to experiment with different settings and push the limitations. But the camera honestly works great, I have no issues with it and I feel like I am insulting it because all I can afford are cheap lenses (I own of the 18-55mm kit lens, the canon ef 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III, and a tamron 28-80mm lens and I am about to buy the canon 50mm f/1.8). The video mode could be better, but that is not what I bought this camera for, my family got this for me as a birthday/christmas/graduation gift since it was so expensive and also more within our price range. This is a great camera with a lot of great features which I dont need to get into since its all in the description I'm just posting my thoughts as a consumer about this product and I do recommend this camera for anybody wanting to get their first dslr, anyone wanting to buy a new one that wants an upgrade, or anybody even looking for just a backup body.

good choice for primary user - Jul 15, 2010

I am trying to study photography. I think Canon t1i is a good choice for primary users.

     Great DSLR! - Jul 15, 2010

I really like the canon t1i, it's pretty easy to use and it takes beautiful pictures....still learning so that i can take full advantage of all the features of the camera....but i do soooo love it!
    Do recomend!

     Well-worth it! - Jul 12, 2010

This camera is fantastic! I love it. A little difficult with low light situations. And auto focus modes are useless - but what auto focus isn't? Definitely a camera for skilled photographers.

     Good Digital SLR - Jul 10, 2010

Overall I am happy with the camera, image quality, user interface etc. If you are planning to buy this camera for live view mode or HD video think twice. I don't like the way you have to use the * (AE) lock button to auto focus in live view mode. it is not intuitive and it feels like auto focus in live view mode is not perfect.

     good camera - Jul 09, 2010

A very good camera. But the color and the close-up pictures are sometimes not as good as sd940

     Excellent Camera - Jul 09, 2010

You do not have to be a professional to use this camera. I have taken excellent pictures in the auto mode! I will use the other settings as I learn more about the camera. I have been very pleased taking pictures in low light settings using the auto mode. I previously bought the Nikon P90 and sent it back because I could not take a decent picture indoors. All the pictures were blurry or orange. The Canon is the better camera hands down in my opinion.

     Great Camera - Jul 09, 2010

This was my first SLR camera and I think it was a great choice. I have taken so many pictures that turn out so much better than my other point-n-shoots cameras. The image quality is awsome and has so many features, still trying to learn them all. Even tried the video feature over the 4th of July and it works pretty good. Probably better than my smaller flip flash drive camera.
Received the discount for the additional zoom lens making this a great deal. That was the reason I bought it from Amazon. I would buy this camera again, and recommend it to people getting into SLR photography.

     GREAT camera!!!! - Jul 07, 2010

I like everything about it. It is easy to use and gives the possibility to explore. I love taking pictures at night and using manual mode.
If you are not an expert but would like to learn some photography I would recommend this product.
