Description
Acclaimed developer Infinity Ward brings you Modern Warfare 2, the sequel to the best-selling shooter of all-time, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Modern Warfare 2 is a first-person tactical shooter and the sixth entry in the popular Call of Duty series. True to its name and following the lead of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it places players in modern combat settings, as opposed to the WWII environments of the earlier Call of Duty games. This modern approach brings with it new weapons, action and options. Coupled with a variety of gameplay modes including single player, multiplayer and the co-op Special Ops Mode, it is destined to be one of the most popular games of 2009 and a worthy addition to the Call of Duty series. Classic tactical FPS action. View larger. | Customizable multiplayer perk system. View larger. | Diverse in-game environments. View larger. | New weapons and gadgets. View larger. | Story The storyline of Modern Warfare 2 picks up where the events of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off. The ultranationalist Russian leader Zakhaev has been eliminated, but it seems that his lieutenant, Vladimir Makarov, is an even bigger danger. Having made a successful play for power, Intel indicates that he is extending the reach of his influence well beyond the borders of Mother Russia, causing a stir in the international community and prompting the involvement of Task Force 141. Task Force 141 is an elite multinational unit made up of Navy Seals, Delta Force operatives, British SAS and CIA. In the single player campaign you are Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, with the hero of Call of Duty 4, "Soap" MacTavish, promoted to Captain, making an appearance as an NPC (non-player character) and your commanding officer. The elimination of Makarov and his underlings at any cost is your number one priority, regardless where the fight occurs. Gameplay The latest release in arguably the most successful tactical first-person shooter franchise of all-time, gameplay in Modern Warfare 2 follows the same winning and time-tested structure of earlier games in the series. In the single player campaign players are aided by AI squad members as they take on a series of missions aimed at eliminating Ultranationalist forces. Each mission is built around a particular objective, with players utilizing some level of guidance from NPC characters, including "Soap" MacTavish, and aided in navigation by the game's heads up display (HUD). Along the way players will be able to utilize a wide variety of weaponry and and vehicles, as well as be able to customize weapons with gadgets attached to them. Also, just as in previous games in the series, Modern Warfare 2 is heavily focused on multiplayer gameplay. The different multiplayer modes, available both in local play and online, contain plenty of customization options and revolve around different strategies ranging from the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy," just to name a few. Multiplayer modes also feature the "Perk" System that players may be familiar with from earlier in the franchise. Through this system players gain additional abilities, weapons and benefits as they gain experience in combat. This can be done by leveling up, but another important way way is through "kill streaks," the number of enemies eliminated in succession. These are available beginning with three kills and include the ability to call for supply drops, predator missile strikes, helicopter gunships and many more. Players have the ability to customize in advance which perks will be available at each number and can even gauge their progress towards each at the touch of a button. With an eye towards not making the game too hard for new players the game also features help to players experiencing "death streaks," multiple consecutive deaths in multiplayer matches. Special Ops Co-op Mode Along with a single player mode and multiple multiplayer modes, Modern Warfare 2 also features an unique third main play option, Special Ops Mode. Available both online and in local play, Special Ops Mode is designed to provide a distinct time-based play option, featuring special scenarios not found in other modes in the game and lots of enemies to take on. This mode can be played either alone or with a friend, again either locally or online, with local co-op play including split-screen functionality. Key Game Features - Challenging Multiplayer Modes – Modern Warfare 2 will contain a wealth of multiplayer modes including: the every man for himself action of "Free-for All," the classic team-based fun of "Capture the Flag and the tactical, team-oriented action of "Search and Destroy."
- Improved AI Enemies – Improved artificial intelligence now allows enemies to attack from virtually any direction as players respawn into the game adding additional challenges.
- An All-new Call of Duty Adventure - Modern Warfare 2 features an all new Call of Duty storyline revolving around the continuing struggles against the Russian rebel group the Ultranationalists, who have found a new and more dangerous leader.
- The 'Special Ops' Optional Co-op Mode – "Special Ops" Mode allows two players, either alone or with a friend, to engage in unique mission play and features split-screen functionality.
- Diverse In-game Environments - Battlegrounds traversed in the game range from the lonely, snow-clad mountains of Kazakhstan, to dark tunnels in the Afghanistan and the crowded slums of Rio.
- Nonstop Action - Modern Warfare 2 contains no cutscenes, so players are always engaged in the action, no matter where they are in the game.
- New Breach Gameplay Mechanic - Players can now blaze their own paths through the game by "Breaching" formerly impregnable obstacles like walls and doors with explosives.
- New Gadgets, Weapons and Weapons System Modern Warfare 2 contains many new and updated weapons, new weapons attachments, as well as a variant of the multiplayer weapons customization system from Call of Duty 4, now available in the single player campaign.
- New Perks and Increased Customization - Multiplayer modes feature new perks for leveling up, and for killstreaks and deathstreaks. Those awarded for streaks can customized in advance according to when they become available.

Best. Game. Ever. - Aug 31, 2010
Are their flaws with this game? Sure...every game has some things you'd like to have added or removed. But I'm giving this game a perfect score because it's the only game me and my friends play. Literally - we all bought a PS3, and this $60 has provided HOURS...WEEKS...MONTHS of online gaming goodness for us.
Forget the single player, we haven't even touched that yet. Just playing the multiplayer is addicting like crack. Campers drive you nuts, MLC knifers make you pull your hair out, noobtubers make you want to kick your console...but it doesn't matter. We all keep coming back to this game daily.
I was never big into FPS games, but this game is just...wow. A year later, and I still play it all the time with friends.
Excellent multi-player tactical game - Aug 31, 2010
I find the MW2 multi-player experience exhilarating. To be able to play with, as opposed to against, a team-mate is, to me, the best aspect of the game. I like to work with a "brother in arms" in taking out the bad guys. While playing against each other as in the previous versions may enhance your skills, I think shooting a friendly is just wrong. Enjoy!
once again - Aug 30, 2010
once again i will complain about the shipping. for this game they originally sent me the wrong version (cd-rom), when i ordered a xbox 360 version. so I sent it back. then when i reordered the version again it took almost a week and half to recieve that version. At least it was the right version...I guess.
Epic Failure - Aug 30, 2010
I was very excited about this game, then it ruined my entire multiplayer experience! I liked COD4 and COD: WAW but this game has so much stuff in it the multiplayer is unplayable. The whole game is Glitch City, and there are so many advantages for players that a newbie does not stand a chance. I quit this game time and time again, but everytime got the same crap results! Get Bad Company 2 instead, at least you won't scream at your tv all day and night. Don't listen to them 5 star reviews, because they're some of the best players in the world that just want to destroy your game life. If you still need a good recommendation for a multiplayer game try all of Valve's games or the Battlefield series they're phenomenal, and Modern Warfare 2 is nothin' but an epic fail!!!
Fun - Aug 28, 2010
It is really fun, the aim online isnt quite to my liking but still fun to try
calloduty - Aug 28, 2010
I bought this video game for my husband the one o bought from amazon doesent work however the one I bought from target did and my hubby loves it!
Lots of fun - Aug 28, 2010
Of course, I already knew how awesome this game was before I bought it, but none the less, it is a lot of fun and worth buying.
Don't buy this game - Aug 28, 2010
I own this game for the PS3 and have enjoyed playing it. I recently upgraded my computer and thought I would try. The online multiplayer portion of this game is just no good. The lag is unbelievable and makes the game unplayable. Nobody is playing this game on PC. The highest lobby had 4000 people in it verus PS3 slow time of 40k. I regret purchasing and am not buying Black OPs until I hear it is better.
best game - Aug 28, 2010
This a incredible wonderfull gaming experince.
The graphics are incredible.
As for the story part is unbelivible.
you can play online and be free.
As for evry thing you can do in the game you will be shocked when you get this game.
I traded all my christmas presants for this one game and I dont regret doing it.
It is a incredible work of master a piece.
Very fun, Tons of action! - Aug 27, 2010
A lot of people say this game is garbage for pc but I think its extremely fun and addicting.
Valve anti-cheat is a terrible anti-cheat though, I seriously think they have 1 person in running VAC and it's a part time dude that just walks into the office and googles for cheats and adds them to the new lists.
Theres only 2 downsides to this game in my opinion, VAC instead of Punkbuster; and lack of dedicated servers!
People keep saying that bad company 2 is better than mw2 but I strongly disagree! This game performs a lot better than bc2 and provides more action in each match.
I'm too lazy to type it all out but simply put... if you enjoy fragging people, mw2 is the game for you.
Theres endless action in online play.
I'm a counter-strike 1.6 player and have been playing that game for the past 4.5 years and this is the only game that has really hooked me like cs 1.6 has.
Not many games can do that!
Fast shipping great value - Aug 26, 2010
I can say anything more that the game work fine and was send to me in two days.
Keep up the good work amazon
I thought this game was gonna be awful because of what i here but i love it! - Aug 25, 2010
I heard a lot of bad stuff about this game but i have more fun with this game then any other cod game i ever played. I also bought it for my new ps3 because of the wifi. I don't have a wifi adapter for my 360 i just use shared internet so i get lots of lag. My PS3 handles online better because of the built in wifi which i use with cod4. I got this game fairly late and now black ops is coming out. I hope it is better but i love this game! I wouldn't recommend this for a person who gets annoyed at noob tubing, and cheesy players. If your just looking to have fun and you don't care how you got killed this is fun as fork! :)
Great Game - Aug 24, 2010
Purchased this as a back-up, because my original game is almost worn out. This is a great game either solo or XBox Live.
Must Have!! - Aug 24, 2010
This game is great. If you like the previus games you will love this one. Very realistic.
A must have for Xbox 360!!!!!
Worst multiplayer game I ever played in my life - Aug 23, 2010
Do not buy this got to be the worst multiplayer game of all time!
Once again Infinity Ward did not give gamers dedicated servers for this reason this game is unplayable offline if you want to play it more than once.
Do not buy or you will be sorry for the money you've spent
Fun Game - Aug 21, 2010
Basically, the only reason why i play xbox. Single player is fun although they couldve made it a bit harder on veteren. Special ops is fun although it is much harder than single player campaign. Multiplayer is a blast. Killstreaks are fun. The guns are great. Maps are fun and very diverse. And the perks make gameplay exciting. If you have a xbox 360 or ps3, this is the game you should be playing.
Smell the Gunpowder. (for XBOX 360) - Aug 21, 2010
I love how the idiots at Amazon have lumped the reviews for all platforms into one mess. The version for 360 stomps the hell out of the other versions. All the 1 star reviews are for PC, yet they drag the overall impression of the game down for anyone glancing at the star rating.
Shame, you morons.
Simply put, this game is a god and I must worship at the idol on a daily basis. Nevermind the guttermouth 12-year-olds flying around on an afterschool high of slurpees and gobstoppers, singing about their genitals at the top of their lungs. Nevermind the unemployed 42-year-old bachelor who nukes your a$$ every other match, and says things about your mother that would make an Irish sailor blush. And never mind the retards who send you obnoxious voice messages inviting you to a:
leveltenprestigelobbyallcamosallattachmetnsixteenhundredmicrosoftpointstextmeatfatnerdsrevengebethereorbegay
--neveryoumind anything folks, cause this game is more addictive than skittles laced with crack.
Go ahead, try and go back to COD4. Can't do it, can you? Oh, you'd love to have your little M4 back so you can do your stupid double tap over and over for quick kills (thank your god they took that away). You'd love to have your stupid chopper that is impossible to take out. Don't you worry your pretty little head, though because the cheese available at your fingertips is far, far more annoying than any previous incarnation. Now there the ever omnipotent noobtube/RPG with dangerclose pro and scavenger (don't act like you never use it, hypocrite). Or, if you want to be really cheesy, there is marathon/lightweight pro shanking . Or coldblooded/ninja pro thermal sniping. Or dropshot. Or sick insane quickscoping across the map. Or spawn killing. Or predators. Or Ac130s. Or chopper gunner. Or good ol' hide under the train by Bravo with c4 on standby camping.
This is the best shooter of all time. If you aren't obsessed with this game then we can't be friends.
Get this game or I will sick a pack of akimbo 1887 wielding 10-year-olds on you (sadly this cheese combo is no more....)
Best multiplayer fps BY FAR - Aug 20, 2010
As everyone knows call of duty IS NOT A SINGLE PLAYER GAME. Yes it comes with a single player campaign, yes its short as hell... who cares. The fillet of these game is and have always been the Multiplayer.
Its the best multiplayer fps out there right now and the most money wise game iv bought in a long time. $[...] bucks and after almost a year im still enjoying it waaaay more than any other game.
Do not buy from tuis company - Aug 20, 2010
I purchased cod mw2 from this company gamezone. It's been two months not only did I never receive my game even though
They had no problem taking my money, I have sent them four emails since then about this and have received no response at all. If u want to donate free money to this company feel free. But do not expect to receive product or communication from these crooks
Yet to Get Old - Aug 19, 2010
I have never touched anything besides the Xbox Live multi-player, and it is loads of fun and highly addicting. The perks and online experience (winning all the time, witnessing the frustration of people who take the game too seriously, etc.) keep you coming back for more. It has been the perfect replacement since the days of Counter-Strike.
Fun if you are new to FPS - Aug 18, 2010
I rented this game for a few days. It's fun, no doubt. As far as FPS goes though, I'd like it better if it made me try to aim, rather than being able to just snap to enemies when you look down the sights. This feature would make it easy for those who haven't played console FPS games, or any type of FPS game in general, to sort of learn what FPS games are like, but as far as giving someone a challenge, it lacks that.
I'd also like to add that I have not tried the multi-player online, and quite frankly, I may not even bother getting the game to do so. Don't really feel like shelling out $40 - $60 only to listen to the complaints of the youths that play (i.e. anyone too young to even purchase the game), which for some games is becoming increasingly common.
If you'd just like to play for the campaign, go for it. Or if you can successfully play online with friends or at least good players, you might wanna consider it.
killer killing game - Aug 18, 2010
this game has spec ops mode which is super fun with 2 people or hard on solo and great online play SO STOP READING THIS AND ORDER THE GAME good luck
The best! - Aug 17, 2010
This game is the best ever! If u liked the first 1 your gonna love this 1! trust me!
MW2 - Aug 16, 2010
As u all knw... this game is really awesome... no doubt i love it... the truth is I like Xbox more than Ps3..i just bought this on ps3 because they is no subscription fee.... :)
The Most AMAZING Game Ever! - Aug 16, 2010
Wow. I came late to the party. I saw the mixed reviews and decided to wait. Instead, I picked up Battlefield 2: Bad Company, which early reviews were calling better than MW2. However, I came away feeling "meh" about it. Eventually, I traded it in and decided to get MW2 anyways. Even though I'm late to the game (and there's literally hundreds of other reviews for this game already), I'll at least add my 2 cents because I think this game has changed the landscape for EVER. This is literally the best game I've ever played. Ever. It's really that good. This is the game you can demo to all your friends who wonder if they should get an Xbox360.
I don't play multiplayer too much, so my review is focused on the campaign. I don't understand why so many people complain about it being too short. I don't think it's too short at all. The missions and locations are the best I've ever seen. There's maps in the snow, the desert, the forest, the ocean, urban ghettos, an airport, etc. You'll be running, driving snow mobiles & boats, jumping over roof-tops and cliffs. The story & special effects are truly amazing. There's rain, snow, blizzards, wind, fog, etc. It really seemed like every few missions I would see something so amazing I would think I'll never forget that moment. Then I'll play another mission and see something that topped it. Having just finished the game, one of the last missions had an EMP go off and helicopters falling from the sky and parts flying everywhere. Then all the electronics in your guns quits working. And as your running around shooting the bad guys, there's not only rain coming down, water flooding places, but all these red embers from the crash sites flying all over the place. I'll never forget it. Then after I finished the game, I was blown away by what they did with the credits. I won't ruin everything, but I'll reiterate that everything (and I mean everything) about this game is top-notch.
I'll also just throw in the quick comment about the co-op missions. I've played some of the COD games in the past and whenever I would have a friend over, I would never be able to play it with them because there was no real co-op. Either you had to jump online to play split-screen (which can be intimidating for new players) or you play 1-on-1 on an empty map. MW2 changes that. And by doing so simply adds to what was already the best game I've ever played. The co-op has a TON of 2-player missions. Some of them are even pretty dang tough. It's the variety of them that makes them so much fun too. It's not just 2 people trying to kill everything on the map. Some of them are speed races, beat the clocks, wave survivals, and my favorites: one person in the air and the other on the ground. And it's implemented flawlessly. Some of them will definitely make you say Wow.
Many people only rate products that they either really love, or really hate (unless they're just bored or completists). Add one to the Really Love column.
Well done Activision. Well done. I don't know if there will be another game that will amaze me like this one did.
