Nice but Cheaper on ebay - Aug 25, 2010
Fun product, tiny, the 30min. per file recording structure is annoying. Item is cheaper on ebay.
Tiny, handy, so-so video quality, needs audio button - Aug 20, 2010
This camera is small and the only one like it so it's hard to compare it to anything else. The video quality is just a hair better than that from a cell phone camera so you won't be winning any Oscars for cinematography. However, the video picture isn't bad and it's mainly the frame rate that's the problem (some flickering) not the resolution. It would be nice if the camera came with an additional clip or strap-- the clip it comes with is alright for thin materials like a shirt pocket, but not the visor of a car or the handlebar of a bike.
The camera absolutely needs an audio-off button because in many states, audio-recording someone without their consent is a crime. Video-recording (unless the person has an expectation of privacy or is in a state of undress) is typically legal without consent. This means that, if you're looking to use this small and concealable camera to record people without their consent or making a big deal about recording the conversation, you have to announce that you are recording and that draws more attention than if you probably just used a larger camera.
DOA - Aug 12, 2010
Dead on Arrival. Charged overnight - nothing... Too bad, so much promise, so little delivery...
Great Product! - Aug 12, 2010
Great video quality. I got it on Thursday and placed it on my dash the first few trips out. Then on Sunday, I just made a quick trip out without it....a car wreck occurred right in front of me and damaged my vehicle. I don't leave home without it now.
needs a few changes - Aug 05, 2010
Will not record while plugged into power.
Full and freshly charged battery only good for one hour of recording.
If battery dies in middle of clip, that clip is unplayable. Clips are 30 minutes long.
Has slow rolling shutter. Tilt camera movements create unwatchable footage.
Audio is very poor.
The monetary switch for record/stop makes it difficult to know if camera is recording. The flashing green light isn't easy to see in bright sunlight from an angle.
No internal clock to properly date video file headers.
I've been running this on bicycle seat post pointed backward at traffic. AAA batteries, and continuous loop recording would make it better.
Muvi Veho VCC003MUVI Micro DV Camcorder - Jul 31, 2010
I didn't know such a GREAT picture and audio could come from such a small camcorder. The camcorder arrived quickly and was exactly as promised.
Very good quality in design and function - Jul 29, 2010
This is a solidly built micro spy cam.
There is nothing cheap about the look or feel of this tiny camera.
About the thickness and length of two USB flash drives stacked together.
It is incredibly small and created shockingly good image quality.
performs well in boh daylight and artificial light.
It's operation is simple and basic.
you can plug it into the USB on your computer to charge the battery, view, delete files or format the card. or use it as a Web cam.
The problem with the sound is that it picks up everything. especially wind.
Manuel or voice activated this is a great piece of technology to have. in your pocket.
It comes with a 2G micro card, I upgraded to a 4g which will last about as long as charge on the built in battery.
"Extremist" Beware...DO NOT BUY - Jul 23, 2010
For my 40th birthday, I decided to buy a mini camcorder to record all the great trails and roads that I get to cycle. I thought it would be a great way to show some of the "newbies" what they can expect when we venture out to new terrain. I had been recommenced another brand, but for the price and the high ratings I had read about the veho muvi, I decided to pinch pennies; the VM also offered an "extreme" sports package that included a helmet mount. Let me begin by saying that the individual who sits at a desk and came up w/ the title for this "sports package" is a complete moran and has probably never done ANYTHING "extreme" in his life.
After figuring out how to mount this camera (it does not include instructions, no kidding) onto my helmet, I noticed that the clamp that actually holds the camera, although secure for a perhaps a nice hike, is questionably stable. Seven miles into the trail, I noticed that my helmet "grazed" a branch. I immediately stopped to check everything.......camera was gone, no kidding. I looked for 30 minutes. So, in essence, I never got to really use it.
I called Amazon to explain what had happened and asked if they would give me some kind of credit......"NOPE". I then tried to call Veho but couldn't find they number, and resorted to an email explaining my situation; ten days later I have yet to hear from them.
I'm gonna buy a GO PRO like I was originally recommended. The mounting kit is obviously better and is actually include w/ the camera.
Great for your money - Jul 19, 2010
I installed it in my motorcycle handlebar through a clamp adaptor. Videos are quite stable, clear, they make the cut once published in youtube.
You can get reasonable stable and quality videos while driving. Do not expect same video quality you would get from a 300 US$ webcam. There are other nice application for this mini webcam.. in the office, in the car, you may record even hanging out of your jacket pocket.. It's useful.
Only complain: no way to preview what you are recording, no LCD screen, you need to make a PC USB download. I would happily pay 100 bucks as soon as a new model with integrated LCD screen (even a 1.5 inch screen) will be available.
Micro DV Camcorder - Jul 14, 2010
Very nice and interesting camera. Some thing very important:
1)If you isert micro sd card(metal contact must be face up and in toward camcorder.Gently use something to push in for click)
2)if power is on,press on a top button to record whith sound, press this button(on a top)again to stop.
if volume switch on and power switch on,device record sound if somebody talk and stop by self if
silent.
This is two regime of operation.
Not "good enough" - Jun 24, 2010
Flips are "good enough" for YouTube, these are not. Low framerate (19 fps), light handling issues (amount varies from camera to camera), and extreme rolling shutter jello. Although my seller only does exchanges, I was able to return this because the frame rate was not as advertised. On the plus side, Veho support was outstanding, they confirmed that the first one I got needed to be returned almost immediately.
A great gadget for discreet, high-quality video - Jun 17, 2010
I do a lot of walking, typically 3 to 6 miles every day from my home to my work, or to nearby businesses. Like most pedestrians, I've had my share of close calls with inattentive and careless drivers. After recently being hit by a car (fortunately, I wasn't too badly hurt), I started looking for a small videocamera that I could wear to record what happened during my walks. The Veho MUVI seemed ideal, and I've now had a couple of days to use it. So here are my impressions:
(1) The MUVI is both smaller and heavier than I expected. It came with a rotating clip to hook to the front of my shirt, and a lanyard to wear around my neck. It looks and feels quite sturdy. I wouldn't want to bounce it off a sidewalk, but it definitely feels tough enough to endure normal handling, or being dropped a short distance. It does get warm to the touch while recording.
(2) Despite what the product photos on Amazon show, the camera must be mounted or carried vertically, not horizontally, with the lens on top for proper orientation. The video quality (640 x 480 pixels) is excellent given the lens size, and the Muvi quickly adapts between outdoors and indoors lighting changes, and gives very good results with both.
(3) As many others have pointed out, the 2 GB card that comes with the MUVI is simply inadequate. Buy yourself an 8 GB microSDHC class 6 card. The MUVI requires about 2.6 GB per hour of recording, so the 8 GB card will provide sufficient capacity for about 3 hours of video, which should be more than enough given the battery life of the MUVI.
(4) Despite what the instructions say, you cannot record while the MUVI is being recharged. On the other hand, with two MUVIs, four 8 GB SDHC cards, and a USB auto charger, you could record an entire 12-hour road trip by charging one MUVI while recording with the other.
(5) My Macbook mounts the MUVI exactly like a USB thumb drive whenever it is plugged in. Videos can be easily dragged and copied, or dragged and deleted. The MUVI does not support high-speed USB data transfer, so I recommend that you get a high-speed SDHC card reader if you want to copy off movies quickly.
(6) Audio quality is adequate but not very impressive. The voices of the people I talk to actually sound clearer than my own, and are understandable as long as you don't have a lot of background noise. You could probably understand a conversation recorded in a quiet room, in my opinion, but I wouldn't gamble on it in a large crowd.
(7) Best of all, the MUVI doesn't look like a videocamera. I've had lots of people look right at it and not realize what it was. I'm guessing they dismissed it and assumed it was an MP3 player or some sort of Bluetooth earpiece. It is ideal for discreet recordings, especially if you find yourself dealing with government authorities and want a video record of your interactions with them. (First make sure to review the wiretapping laws for wherever you live.)
So what would I like to see for a future version of the MUVI? Full HD quality recordings, longer battery life, better audio, and true optical stabilization would be a nice wish list, although fitting any of them into the MUVI's form factor would require a lot of engineering effort. Nevertheless, the MUVI is still an amazing little videocamera for its size and cost, and I'm looking forward to using it extensively in the coming months.
Great buy for fun camera - Jun 09, 2010
The Muvi Micro DV Camcorder is surprisingly adept in a number of situations. For something of its size, producing full-color, with sound videos of surprisingly good quality seems almost miraculous. I've found it makes excellent videos, requires little light to function and can be easily mounted in any number of places. Its black color makes it inconspicuous in most situations. It would be ideal to record a baby sitter or nanny while you're out for the evening just to assure yourself all is well.
It can also be used as a computer camera if your present machine doesn't have one built-in already. For considerably less than $100 it's an amazing little device!
Works fine if there is enough light and not sudden movements - May 28, 2010
I bought this to fool around and try some movies. The image is not HD like I thought originally.
The product works relatively well except that it is not good (like most cheap cameras) with low illumination. You have to be careful also to do not pan more than 20-30 degrees or you will get sea sick watching your videos.
In relatively good illumination it works right again you won't substitute your $400 Hd camera with this. It works much better than those "pen" spy cameras though those are cheap and fall apart within days of use. This product is sturdy but it is not as easy to conceal as those "pens" but at least is black and not bigger than a thumb.
I did not give 5 stars because the problems with low light videos.
Simply amazing - May 25, 2010
This is an amazing little device. Shoots 640X480 color video an an utterly smooth framerate. Creates AVI files on SD media. Multiple files, looks like it creates a new one every 30 minutes of video. But easy to join multiple files if you are shooting for that long. And it will run for a long time -- I put a 4GB Class 4 mini SD in it and ran it continuously for over 90 minutes with no issue. Charged it back up off the USB port in less than an hour. Comes with a removable clip to assist mounting the camera. Also works fine as a web camera. Awesome.
Only thing I would like to see is the ability to rotate the camera lens orientation 90 degrees clockwise or counter-clockwise (for situations where a horizontal vs vertical orientation of camera body is required).
easy to use - May 22, 2010
I love this cam...I did purchase a new 4G SD card but other than that it is great. Easy everything! I love the voice activated feature, makes the battery life a lot better! I have told all my friends if they need something like this to get this one!
Road trip video diary - May 21, 2010
Bought the MUVI camcorder to share road trip video with family. It works great inside a vehicle, clipped it to the visor and recorded at high and low speeds. The video was clear and I was very happy. Sound leaves something to be desired but that is not why I wanted it. As long as the windows were closed the sound was great, but if there is any wind all you hear is white noise. I read a review here on amazon from someone who attached it to the frame slider on their motorcycle. This didn't work for me. The vibration from the motor caused the video to warble badly, it made me ill to try and watch it. I am going to try a few other places on the bike but the frame slider idea was too good to be true. This camcorder is very very small. It is less that two inches tall. I was expecting it to be a bit bigger. This is convenient as it fits in your pocket but it also makes it much easier to lose. The small size and light weight makes it difficult to mount on a motorcycle, inside a car it's perfect.
7/13/10 Up date on the MUVI. Went to track and taped the camcorder to the front of my CBR. A little crude but the video was awesome! Even the sound was great, you can clearly hear the bike shifting over the wind noise, which wasn't as bad as I had expected. There was almost no vibration and the picture was clear, even at high speeds. Great camera!
Absolutely great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - May 21, 2010
I cant believe the audio video quality, ive been video taping all my trips and this is easy to manage. This will suit any hunters need especially those with weight restrictions.Furthermore,if you happen to be a pervert, this will also do the trick and you can spend your whole day satisfying yourself manually after visiting your local mall. Its a breeze to operate.
Even better with a DIY tripod mount - May 16, 2010
Great little video camera. If you transfer the video to your computer and then play it from there, there aren't any problems with video playback. What made this video camera even more useful was to make a tripod mount for it so that I can attach it any tripod and with the appropriate tripod, attach the camera anywhere. Check out this video for a cheap DIY tripod mount that will open up filming possibilities with the Veho Muvi. Not too tough - May 13, 2010
This tiny camcorder looks and feels tough, but is not actually the case. I dropped it about 3 times and now it stopped working. The image quality was very decent when it was working -- it's quite similar to those chinese hidden cameras sold on dx.
Good While It Lasted - May 11, 2010
It worked about 2 weeks. Sadly I threw the box away so I can't return it. Its to light to use as a paper weight. I guess I'll just throw it away.
Great Picture! Easy to use. - May 10, 2010
Great Picture! Easy to use.
But, I don't know why my one cannot be turn off the voice recording.
I use it to record my driving. I wish it could recording and charging at the same time, but it can not. So that, I don't need to recharge it around every 2 hours it had been used.
Overall, it is still a nice product.
Great Value for the Money - Apr 15, 2010
The image quality is incredible for the size of the camera, audio is decent. Seems to be really well built and the case is more solid then I thought it would be, appears to be able to take some abuse. I absolutely love this camera. So why the one star? it paused every 2 seconds, I emailed veho, they told me to format my micro sd (transcend 8gb class 6) that didn't do anything. I also tried the lame 2 gb that came with it. It still paused every 2 seconds, which makes the sound almost impossible to understand, I could have lived with the picture pausing because it was so brief, but not the sound. I believe it was a defective camera so I ordered another one and should get it friday. If it works I am going to buy several, and have a lot of fun with them. If you are in the market for a camera of this size do yourself a favor and buy one.
good value despite some warts - Mar 31, 2010
I bought a Muvi VCC003 to shoot video while (road) bicycling. I was pleasantly surprised by the crisp images it produced, and how quickly it adjusted exposure when going from shade to bright light and vice versa.
The good:
- inexpensive
- tiny
- good depth of field
- adjusts quickly to changing light levels (automatic exposure control)
- sensitive microphone
The bad:
- no image stabilization
- only visual feedback, no audible feedback (for low battery; recording vs. not)
- no weather-protection for USB port (e.g., a rubber plug)
- no viewfinder, screen, or laser guides (like the much costlier ContourHD) for aiming
- silicone sleeve in accessory pack doesn't work with the clip mounts, only with straps
- accessory pack comes with absolutely no instructions
- Veho website is poorly organized and offers little useful help
- sensitive microphone (picks up too much ambient noise)
For the price, I'm satisfied with its performance. You could even buy a handful to simultaneously shoot forwards, backwards and sideways (though it would take several seconds to start and stop all the cams).
Great "little" camera - Mar 25, 2010
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RCYCFGUCFC9W9 This thing is great. I tried the Oregon Scientific ACT3K and the picture quality of the Muvi is far better.
The Veho folks aren't doing us or themselves any favors by shipping it with such a sub-standard memory card though. At first I was slightly disappointed until I put in a 4Gb class 2 MicroSDHC card I had lying around. What an improvement. I've got a couple 8Gb class 6 cards on the way so I should be all set.
Some things to note:
1. Files are limited to 30 minutes at which time it will start a new file.
2. For some reason all files are dated 12/31/2000 12:00 AM
3. Files are huge. The 3:25 min. video I submitted was edited in Movie Maker and saved as a WMV at 2mbps and is 52Mb. The original raw 5 minute AVI file at 64kbps was 175 mb.
4. The audio is awful but not really an issue for me.
The edited video in WMV was as close as I could get to the original. There was only a slight loss in quality.
