Just for NHL 11 - Aug 31, 2010
Madden 11 is OK.Cant say better than 10,didnt get it last year.I decided to skip a year with Madden, like EA should do,and come out with Madden 13 in two years. Its about the same as Madden 09,with a few less features. If Madden was like MLB 10 The Show, then it would be the bomb.Hey,I just bought Madden to get the 20$ off to buy NHL 11,the real EA game to get.If NHL 11 is as good as NHL 10,thats the game we should be waiting for every year.Madden, take next year off, provide roster update, and not for 60$,and lets wait for 2K to get back into making football games.
Awful - Aug 28, 2010
Watered down, terrible game. Worth $20 at most. The same Madden, only with less features. I miss the icons for speed players, great hands, etc. Please don't make the mistake (like I did) to support this declining franchise.
Very shallow - Aug 26, 2010
Most everyone has played a game in the Madden series. That's exactly the problem with Madden 11: If you've played Madden in the last 5 years, you've played this one.
Graphically and in terms of gameplay, very little has changed in several years. Of course, a new feature or two is introduced each time around, but it's essentially the same game with a roster update. It feels as though EA is pushing everyone to online play, and forsaking all else.
Franchise and Be A Superstar modes are very shallow. In fact, they are even more shallow than they once were. There's very little fun to be had in Be A Superstar when you can't choose your team, you're locked into multiple seasons with the team that drafts you, and there's zero depth beyond playing the games.
I don't think I will be purchasing Madden in the future - I owned Madden 11 for 2-3 days before trading it in. That was all the time it took for me to be "done" with it.
perhaps it's time to retire this franchise - Aug 26, 2010
They were the kings, now they only survive because they have the exclusive license with the NFL so they're the only game that can use the team and player names. The game overall feels like the same thing from the past 2 years, with a few changes (most of them not all that great). It has errors all over the place: Intercept a pass with Jets Safety Jim Leonhard and listen to the announcer call him Lester, have a touchdown called back because of a review but see it still on the scoring summary at the end of the game (with the incorrect score). The more you play it the more stupid things you see, try and have a successful on-side kick (the success rate in the NFL is 42%, you'll be lucky if you have a success rate anywhere near 10%). While the graphics look improved, the game play, once the biggest deal in Madden, feels stiff and not as much in your control--you can almost predict the animation that is going to occur. Overall, this one just isn't as fun as Madden was 4 or 5 years ago, and those weren't as fun as they were 4 or 5 years before that. I think this will be the last Madden I ever purchase. I will also avoid the sponsors/advertisers who are continually assualting you throughout the game, Doritos, Verizon, Old Spice. Clearly this game is much more about making money with very little programming changes and selling in-game advertising.
Watered Down - Aug 26, 2010
I haven't owned a Madden game in probably five years and apparently I haven't missed much. For some reason I got the urge to buy this one and have been largely unimpressed.
While I find the gameplay to be about on par with what I expected (Gameflow is completely optional for all those that have complained), the franchise mode seems to have become a complete after thought. I honestly think it it had more depth and presentation when I last owned Madden on my X-Box. I'm not really getting much out of franchise play and I don't have 31 friends to make an online franchise worth my time. This used to be the most fun aspect of Madden for me and now it's mind-numbingly boring and lifeless...
If you haven't purchased Madden '11, skip it and wait to see if EA follows through on its promise of overhauling the game for the 2012 edition.
Lagtastically Fun - Aug 25, 2010
I have thouroughly enjoyed this madden. It is the best madden game yet. Locomotion is amazing, the energy of the announcers is way way up creating a much more exciting experience. My only quam is the multiplayer lag. It is bad. I dont understand how they can make a game like battlefield bad company 2 that is nearly lag free (at least it feels that way) but then this game you really feel the lag.
Great game, click buy now, you wont be sorry.

Solid - Aug 25, 2010
This game, no matter what the finished product is, great or not so great, will be hated on. People just love/hate this game like no other, but I believe it still sells as the #1 sports game doesn't it? They say sales are down, but it's been 1 or 2 on Amazon's bestsellers list for a while now.
I think it's solid. The graphics have been brightened and they are superb, the cut scenes, and the presentation is the best it's ever been, and honestly I've hated the presentation forever, but this year it's a huge improvement. The locomotion is a welcome addition and gameflow is a nice addition as well with one caviot... Quicker, faster, deeper, means you have to make your adjustments on defense much faster. Ian Cummings, the lead DEV, said they are considering some changes but have to make sure any change balances out. Honestly the quicker adjusting on defense is the #1 negative for me about the game. Many times it's hiked and I've done half my adjustments.
Offense is much easier, running is easier and much more satisfying, because of these things, defense is at a huge disadvantage. Online teamplay is a nice change of pace, but to me I prefer single player, because everyone wants the ball, and everytime I passed to them they dropped it. When I passed to the default guys I dominated, but my teamates are morons usually, so I just dominate on my own and they quit, lol. I don't want them to take me down.
Games are now 7 minutes online. That's rough IMO, because to me that means the better player will usually win every time. For Madden lifers they love this, but I'm not one of them, so I'm average and I can't ball control as much as I'd like because the game is 8 minutes longer. I beat who I'm supposed to beat but it's hard for me to get upsets which is what I live for.
Superstar & Online Franchise weren't touched, they'll be dealt with next year they said.
If you haven't got Madden in a while I recommend Madden 11. This Madden is much more of a pick up and play than ever because of the offense is easier and gameflow is your defualt playbook that picks the plays for you, or you can adjust it to your liking , and you finish slightly sooner because of it. If you got Madden 10 last year, I'd pass. Many consider Madden 10 the best Madden. Downside to 10 will be weaker presentation, slightly weaker graphics, and older rosters.
Lastly as many have said, you have to buy this NEW unless you want to pay $10 for the online code EA now requires used. I got lucky, no one used my code I got it used two weeks after the games release.
The strategy pad (the bar that allows you to make all the adjustments) is supposed to be patched to give players the option of last years strategy pad. If so Madden 11 is a 9, if not it's an 8. Last years game was an 8 as well.
Exclusivity Stinks! - Aug 25, 2010
Where to begin... This game has taken a MAJOR step backward AGAIN this year. The Franchise mode is terrible (scouting is weak, signing players is time consuming and irritating, less tracking of statistics, interface is cumbersome, etc.). The AI is incredibly dumb, Games are typically 40-50 points per team on All-Pro. All-Madden is just as rediculous, yet even more frustrating with AI doing anything to stay "competitive..."
I rarely write such a poor review, and can chalk up a poor purchase without complaining about it. However, it just infuriates me that as soon as EA got NFL exclusivity, the Madden games have consistently gotten more and more unrealistic and downright less enjoyable to play. As a long time Madden buyer, I've dedicated some significant time to the Madden franchise over the years. However, post NFL exclusivity I find myself playing less and less. This was the first time I've purchased the game in three years. After a week of playing it, I wish I had waited another three. I should note, I'm no "fanboy" of one particular game or developer. I just feel paying $60+ for a game should result in some sort of improvement and satisfaction. I doubt anyone would be willing to pay $60 for some graphic improvements, updated (sort of) rosters and the addition of useless "gameplay" (which can't be turned off in Online play, actually making it more frustrating).
I've heard rumors that EA may be completely overhauling Madden 12, and I sincerely hope they do. As a child I would have cost my parents $60 for this trash. As an adult, I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. I just want to play "Madden." It may be titled Madden, but this isn't "Madden." My recommendation is you save your money and play Madden 2002, as it's seriously better than this years joke...
Downgrade from 2010 - Aug 24, 2010
Very disappointing. EA Sports--shame on you. The online game play, which to me has been the cornerstone of success for the Madden franchise, has lost nearly all potency and credibility when compared to Madden 10. In addition, the new gameplay and in-game audio happen to also jump out to me as major deficiencies with the 2011 game.
Another head scratcher - Aug 23, 2010
As a hard core Madden fanatic I am extremely disappointed with this piece of garbage. I only rate it a 1 to counteract the people that un-deservedly give this a 5. My real rating would be a 2 or maaaybe a 3 because of the graphics. But all games should have good graphics by now.
Where is the my music option that is available in NHL2010? That game is EA as well, there is no excuse for this. It is the year 2010 now and I still can't put my own music in the game, completely MIND BOGGLING.
NCAA has a great no huddle feature, when you run no huddle your plays pop up on the screen allowing you to have access to your whole playbook just like in the real game. But for some weird reason this AWESOME feature is totally missing in Madden. Instead you have about 4 or 5 choices of plays and your opponent if your playing on the same system can see exactly what you pick. My highschool football team had more play options during the hurry up than the NFL teams on Madden, WHY?
The strategy pad is an absolute FAIL. Instead of pressing triangle, L1, or L2 for hot routes, Line audibles, etc. they have added another 2 steps to this process making it harder to make quick pre-play adjustments before the snap. Even after the experienced Madden player gets used to this they have still added 2 more steps no matter how you look at it. Plus EA has made it hard to get used to both NCAA and Madden, not exactly a great business model.
The menus once again are SLOW. We want fast menus that change with a quick tap of the L2 or L1. we do not want to hold the L2 then press down to get to the position in the depth chart, VERY annoying but this problem is not specific to this years madden it has existed ever since the conversion to PS3/360.
dropped i.n.t.'s, horrible zone coverage, messed up ratings, and many other problems i could name. The Madden for PS2 that had QB vision remains the best Madden ever. Complex, hard on All Madden and making the qb actually look where he is passing. but maybe the elementary school kids will have fun with this SIMPLE madden. adults

If it's aimed at the casual fan, why don'y I like it? - Aug 23, 2010
I know there are a lot of dissapointed hardcore Madden players that have just flamed the game. I'm not a hardcore Madden guy. I buy Madden once every 3-4 seasons after there have been several updates and changes. Apparently I missed the best one(Madden 10) when I picked up 11.
First with the good:
It looks great...mostly. At a glance, the game is amazing during actual gameplay. The clipping is pretty much gone and all of the animations are smooth as silk.
The new presentation is really good, definately has the TV broadcast feeling. Finding an online game is easy and there are several modes to keep you occupied. If you want to get together with some buddies and talk trash, Madden 11 is a great game, hence the 3 stars.
The Bad:
Everything that is not gameplay looks like trash. The fans, the coaches, before game, post game, all of it. The graphics are flat and not detailed and stutter like crazy. Really atrocious.
There is NO DEFENSE. I understand the Cowboys putting 38 on me, but the Bucs? A fast player (Steve Slaton for example) is almost unstopable. A run to the outside with a couple extra blockers; money play everytime. Pretty much any player with a speed rating over 90 is untouchable. Anything on the edges and they are gone if they don't get hit on contact.
And that doesn't even consider the abysmal "Gameflow" play calling. Eight in the box blitzing for the Saints becuase they ran a couple times in a row, check. 4 wide running deep routes in the redzone for God only knows what reason, check. Useless.
My main complaints though are with the actual gameplay, and these are old problems that have been around for years. The D will pour through the line on play action before the QB has a chance to fake the hand off. But a shotgun pass will almost always give you time to find a receiver. Most importantly, on higher difficulty settings, your players get worse (i.e. Andre Johnson can't catch anything) instead of the AI getting better.
Every few years I think I'll give Madden a try, and every few years I'm dissapointed. I'll keep my copy through the NFL season but will definately be trading it in after the Super Bowl.
Best Madden Ever!!! - Aug 23, 2010
I'm not sure why this only has 3 stars but this is by far the best madden I've played in awhile. I played a good bit of 2010, not so much 2009, but 2010 was awful. The AI couldn't even tackle right in 2010 so I don't know how anyone can say this version isn't an improvement. The game play feels just right. Best football game ever!!!
Madden becoming overrated - Aug 22, 2010
Madden needs to stop charging people full price for this game. I think they need to put an end to the Madden series if they are not willing to think outside the box and come up with new features. This game is the same as last madden 10, there's is no new features. Gameplay is the same as ASK MADDEN to pick you play like in madden 10. The new controls are lame, no more speed button, poor tackling is horrible. The good thing now is that you receiver can actually beat the defensive back now. The oline is horrible, they give up so many easy sacks, plus they got a lot of players overrated in the game. So don't waste your money, wait till the price come down to about 25 or 30 dollars before you buy.
If you liked Madden 10, this is no longer the game you loved. - Aug 22, 2010
Not worth more than $30. Only good if you are new to the Madden series. If you were good at Madden before you basically have to start over. Cool game to play casually with a few friends but Franchise isn't as fun because the game controls suck. Online is slow and not anything close to last years game. Also, why pay $60+ for a game that bombards you with Ads, and charges you to use their online section if you buy used. Madden and EA got too greedy for me to enjoy this game.
poor - Aug 22, 2010
they spent to much time on presentation, not enough on game play. the players run like they have something up their butts. very poor. They should look to younger brother NCAA Football and change it to that style, then the other stars and sprinkles with shine.
Change the Buttons Back, STAT!!! - Aug 21, 2010
I appreciate that EA tries to tweek the game to make it better each year. This time, they took a step back. They changed some of the controlls to require more button presses than they did last year. I see another reviewer said a patch is coming. I think the game will be good after that.
Not all that - Aug 21, 2010
This game just locked up for the third time this week. Way to go EA. Nothing better than crushing your hated rival after a hard days work only to have to try and do it again tomorrow and hope the system does not lock up. Some of us work for a living and our game time is gold to us. No wonder it takes 30 years to become a legend.
The new play calling is not good at all. The old play calling is superior. I am not sure who they are trying to market this game to with the one button system. How does a game get deeper with a one button system? The answer is it does not. It is not like the game was difficult to begin with. Getting rid of the sprint button\trigger is a non-feature. The potential rating is something that I am not sold on.
Since when is it almost impossible to throw a slant pass against a zone defence or man to man? In man to man the defender will knock it out and in zone your idiot QB will throw it right to the DB.
I wanted to like this game because last years version was possibly the best madden ever. After the dissapointment that is the NCAA 11 football game and now this steaming pile I can only wonder if the people at EA are even playing these games before they ship them to the public. It appears they run them in a demo mode so they can see all the cool new animations but if they played them they would have to buy a new controller because the one they had been using is in a million pieces after being thrown across the room in frustration and disgust.
Madden 11 aim to help noobies to like the game. - Aug 21, 2010
I've been playing Madden for years now, I consider myself an old timer playing Madden, this Madden 11 version frustrates the hell out of me, the gameflow is annoying to me, it obviously helps noobies who don't know their playbook or pretty much new to the game of football. the only good thing is that it's optional. It's so freaking hard to tackle is ridiculous!!! The preplay controls have been change, now you need to use the D-pad and its takes lots of extra time to setup your defense they way you want it. Pretty much the game is not balance, offense is more powerful than defense. I hope EA Sports patches the game really soon to fix the bugs that it has that way I can go back to love the game of Madden!
BEST MADDEN EVER - Aug 21, 2010
I highly recommend this game from the madden lover to even the casual football fan, it is definietly a must have! I've been playing madden for at least 10-15 years and this is one of the best, if not the best, games they've put out yet! I absolutely love it!
Franchise Mode is Virtually Unchanged - Aug 20, 2010
I know no one needs this review, you are probably like me and every year you complain about the game and then go right out and buy it again the next year. I mean seriously, if you want NFL football what other choice do you have? None.
However, I feel like I have to vent a bit on the fact that yet again, Franchise Mode goes without any attention. I mean it is virtually untouched from the year prior, so if you had complaints about last years version, be prepared to relive them.
Rumors are Franchise will be completely rewritten next year, I hope that's the case.
Solid Improvements, nothing revolutionary - Aug 20, 2010
The graphics/ realism and the life like movements are good.
The new quick play calling is decent; I could take it or leave it.
I think team to team the game seems to be a little more competitive. Over the past few years I have found it more and more difficult to run, 2011 it seems to have fixed this. Running is easier so far.
This madden still has those crazy momentum shifts of old, were you are just dominating on team and then they all the sudden they break wide open and score multiple touchdowns. I will say this year it is a little easier to swing the momentum back in you favor.
From someone who has purchase Madden most years since it started, this gets a solid B+. Worth buying, just as additive as ever.
Its Madden.. - Aug 19, 2010
Not at all surprised by anything other than the players still feel like theyre running in sticky sludge, the menu is pretty cool. Gameplay is right next to horrid, beautiful but horrible pace. I immediately sold mine after trying it for a few days. Hopefully someone will get some joy out of it,madden 10 was horrible too...I was expecting them to fix the sludge deal but they didnt, totally throws me off from playing this.
Game Breaking Issues - Aug 19, 2010
Most Madden hardcore fans have already purchased this and thus to them any review except thier own is likely unessicary. However for a casual fan, or someone new to the series there are several issues with the game that would lead me to strongly recomend buying Madden 10 over this.
There are plenty of reviews on gameplay issues both strengths and weaknesses so I will ignore those and focus on the overall cause of people quitting.
First and most obvious in both on line and offline mode (though more commonly in off line Franchise mode) the game will Freeze at a loading screen. Saving often will help prevent loss of hours BUT at the end of a game (again specifically in franchise mode)you are unable to save until it loads from the game screen to the menu screen. You will find yourself playing the same game against the same team over and over with NOTHING counting or just simming through it. If you are buying it for Franchise mode you will be sorely dissapointed.
The only other glaring problem is on line. Is MUT (Madden Ultimate Team) you play on line. Your opponent can quit at ANY time and neither of you will recieve ANY reward for the game, not coins, not win losses nothing. In ranked regularly ranked matches your oppent has until Half-Time to decide to quit with (again) NO PENALTY and no reward for you. And finally there is NO fairplay on line like in Maddens past. Nothing to prevent your opponent from going for it on 4th and 40 or on-side kicking every kick off
So again forgetting all gameplay issues good and bad, new features and old brought back if you are thinking about buying this game for either Franchise mode or On-Line mode I highly recomend buying a previous version or at the very least looking up other reviews on this issues. EA has issued statements saying they are going to be "patching" but what or when is up in the air. Their first patch is scheduled for the start of the football season (though this could be just a updated roster or the patch to thier strategy pad).
If you have waited this long I can only say try to wait another year so you won't suffer the frusteration with this game and still can be hopefull for the next.
BAMBOOZLED AGAIN - Aug 19, 2010
I am more disappointed in myself than I am in this game. Once again I bit this hook, knowing that what I was hearing was more than likely overblown hype. The worst part is that once again I have rewarded EA SPORTS for putting out a substandard product. DAMN IT!!!
If you are a "hardcore" sports gamer, if you have been playing Madden for several years, if you have memorized the buttons that allow you to make offensive and defensive adjustments- you will hate this game. You will end up turning off EVERYTHING that EA SPORTS is hyping about this game. This game was made for kids and newbies.
If you get pissed off when you pay $60 for a game only to be confronted with micro transactions at every level, advertising IN YOUR FACE the first moment you load up the game- you will hate this game. It's always there. It's always the first thing you see.
The franchise mode has been unchanged since 2000. The same team logos, the same team creation system, stadium creation system, everything about the franchise mode is either the same as or dumbed down from the franchise mode that was in the XBOX version of the game.
The new presentation elements are a waste of time, literally. Replays are weird and jumpy, they repeat three times, you can't turn them off- a real irritation. You are forced to repeatedly watch the same player get a drink of water on the sidelines. The quarterback talks to the coach. It's always the same. All it does is waste my time. It adds nothing to the experience. Certain aspects of gameplay are ruined by the camera angles. For instance, when I punted the ball near the end zone I was unable to see where the ball landed. I am not sure but I think the play ended before the ball actually stopped moving.
I played a game against the Titans. The stadium has a giant shadow in the middle of the field. When you are in that shadow you can't see the players of the other team. It is really distracting. I'm sure the art director loves it. I friggin hate it.
As far as I am concerned, this Madden is not only the worst made for the NEXT GEN consoles, it is the worst Madden since the late 1990's.
If you are going to buy this game, I would wait and buy it at Blockbuster. There will be plenty of them there, believe me.
Franchise Mode is horrible - Aug 18, 2010
well the gameplay is Madden, plain and simple Madden, just like NCAA. thats not a bad thing, we have all gotten used to it and its fun. I will start with the positives on this game, I love the fact that they got rid of the speed burst, kind of a stupid feature that people just got used to, I mean shouldn't your players be running hard all the time? It does make it easier to perform other moves and to me makes the running game more enjoyable. Also the environment and "show" part of the game is great, one thing EA usually shines at.
Now for the negatives: Passing is too easy just like all Maddens, I would love to see more knockdown and dropped passes like in real life. Seems like to make passing more difficult they just increase sacks and pass rush rather than making the AI pass defense better. I did try Backbreaker and say I like their tackling and physics better but we know that will never make its way to EA games, they are too stubburn to change. Anyway, I still find the game play enjoyable.
Biggest negative for me: a lot of people (more than EA thinks) want a robust franchise mode (and not online). EA has spent way too much time with the online gameplay and tweaking things in the game (like fans and "show" stuff) but totally neglected the Franchise mode which is the only reason I buy Madden. I was shocked that NCAA 10 (which I bought) was 10X more in depth with college franchise mode than Madden is with theirs. I was expecting the ability to edit and import your own logos just like NCAA, I mean how hard could it be for them to port that to Madden??? And maybe I am confused but in Madden 09 I remember being able to customize your league a little before starting a franchise like changing the divisions around, that is totally gone. Also you can't change selected teams once you start the franchise mode meaning if you want total control over relocation you have to control all the teams all the time. another huge negative is that you can't edit players, ever, not even in between seasons, and you can't create a draft player once inside the franchise, come on even NCAA lets you create freshman every year!!! You can edit players in a way, you can PAY to improve them, thats right they charge you to get "boosts" for your franchise, and to unretire players they CHARGE you, really? because $60 for the game isn't enough, you want another $2 so I can unretire a couple guys if I want, EA get your heads out of your @sses. These are features that SHOULD be there since they are in NCAA, I won't even get into the fact that its not deep at all (30 years) and you can't start in previous seasons (like starting a franchise in 1990 and playing forward with real players entering the draft...). Stadiums are a joke, hasn't been changed in years, uniforms are the same. And my final rip on the franchise mode, I could have sworn a couple years ago you could create alternate uniforms, now you can only create the "home" and "away" uniforms for a created team, what BS. If you are looking for a fun created universe but semi based on reality, buy NCAA and just deal with it not being pro football. Madden is our only hope because there is no compeition and they have been slacking because of it.
2K just needs to make a football game where you can import names and logos, then we can make our own NFL pretty easily with a few mods, who cares if the players don't look like their real life counterparts, give Madden some competition at least...
(I have only been buying Madden ever other year for the last 6 years becuase they never change much except for roster updates which you can do on your own, so I didn't buy Madden 10).
