Very Pleased - Aug 31, 2010
This camera is awsome, it takes such good pics Above and Below water. expecually with the water mode on, even at 120 feet the pics were great, but the video was amazing under water, very clear and great sound.. I don't think you can get any better with a compact camera
Feels solid and takes great pics! - Aug 30, 2010
Bought the SD1300 specifically to have a small camera while traveling across the country following Route 66! (I have a Canon S5IS which I took to Germany and Italy, but found it inconvenient to carry daily.) THIS camera takes exceptional pictures and video, is convenient to carry and the battery lasts for DAYS before needing a charge. On a week trip to Maryland I did find the VIDEOS I shot at full zoom were blurry, but I didn't notice it until I downloaded them to view on my computer. Only for that reason did I not give it 5 stars. Full zoom PICTURES are fine. I love using the SD Card to directly download pictures (but then, that's a positive point of my computer). I did purchase an extra 4gb SD card but have not had to use it yet. (I have over 600 pictures and probably 40 minutes of video on the first one.) I do suggest purchasing a camera case of some sort for protection. I found one at Target which is just a padded cloth type, and it prevents the camera from getting scratched up in my purse but doesn't take up much room. I do put the strap over my wrist while shooting because it is so small you can drop it easily. Buying from Amazon.com allows me to purchase a really GREAT product saving the tax I would pay at a retailer, and it ships for FREE. It's well worth the price, and I see it's even dropped $10 from the July 2 price. Pick your favorite color and buy it if you're looking for a small, convenient camera that takes great pics at a reasonable price.
Nice camera!! - Aug 28, 2010
I have owned several Canon ELF cameras. I like the power button layout and the menus are similar to my other Canon cameras. I don't like carrying around a large camera and am willing to sacrifice some features and functionality for convenience. However, I don't feel like I'm giving up much as this camera takes great pictures!
Great but beauty flaws - Aug 27, 2010
I took this camera to my over-America road trip. The camera saw pretty hard conditions - 99 degrees of heat, dropping into sand, 3000 pictures over 3 weeks. It just went on-off all the time, I put a weight of a full year of use onto it over 3 weeks.
Works great. Amazing photos, it is easy to use, automatic regimes like macro work brilliant. Even through car windows on a speed of 70mph, it takes pictures like standing on a place. You could never tell they are made from a car ride. Brilliant photos, great camera.
1 minus. Beauty flaws come up quickly. It is easy to scratch it and after 3 weeks of use, it looked rubbish. Like a 3 year old camera. I have never seen this before. So if you are interested in aesthetics, buy some other camera. If you want to have awesome, truly brilliant pictures from a small and compact camera, buy this one. Photos wise it is the best you could buy, if you like to hang out and show your fancy equipment in a big crowd, this camera is not looking fancy over longer period of time.
Useful - Aug 26, 2010
It's convenient and useful.I take it during my trip to LA and LV.To me any small camera is almost same.but this one, i think with a good price and quality.
PS:You need to protect it very well, from crash and water.
Great Point and Shoot. - Aug 24, 2010
I really like this camera a lot. Only thing I've noticed that isn't great is that if you zoom all the way, the picture is blurry. If it's not going to take a clear picture at that zoom, why even bother having the capacity to zoom all the way in? However, it's very user friendly and does take great pictures within a reasonable distance. Love the big screen and the size. Overall, I think it's a great point and shoot camera.
Good Camera - Aug 19, 2010
So far, just about everything has been great with this camera. If I had to identify any cons it would be that deleting photos isn't clear and that the camera has a format problem with a file if I have viewed the file on my pc. But the pictures are great, the battery has a long life on a charge, macro works well and auto mode works well.
Really Nice! - Aug 10, 2010
Nice, simple to use. Intuitive function. no view finder, but not a big deal- the screen is very useful to that end. In fairness, I would mention that the optical zoom is only 4x and I might go with a higher optical if I had it to do over again. I have used it indoors and outdoors, for work and for fun and so far it's a little champ
Small camera; big features - Aug 10, 2010
I bought this camera for my husband. He needed something simple, handy and small enough to fit in his pocket. My friend had a Canon PowerShot 1200 series that she took when we went on a 2 week horse back riding vacation to Ireland. She took the best pictures, always able to quickly set up her timed shots so we 4 ladies could all be in the picture. She could quickly pull her camera out of her jacket pocket to take beautiful scenery as we rode by. She came off her horse on the beach and the camera survived better than her body!
This 1300 series is even better! First test was at our daughter's wedding this Saturday where my husband took the best candid shots. It was great to be able to so easily review wedding shots on the TV, especially to show the older grandparents the next day. He is leaving for Bonneville Land Speed Trials next week and I bet he uses this camera more than his big one with the big lens.
WOW - Jul 30, 2010
What a camera !! the pics are beautiful and the options are amazing , this is definitely the best of non-touch screen , digital camera.
The design is also nice and the size is perfect .
Pack & Go - Jul 27, 2010
I am a big fan of Canon and Nikon products. This camera is a little gem as it is light and portable. I use a Canon for work related matters and it serves my needs quite well. Its compact style makes it all the more appealing.
If you need something that is user friendly and ready to go, then you want this camera.
Be Aware--No printed manual comes with the camera - Jul 24, 2010
I just bought this camera a few days ago to serve as a back-up camera for me while I send my Canon SD870IS out for service as well as be something my daughter can use as she gets more involved in taking her own photos. So far, this seems to be a pretty good camera and many of the features I was already used to using on my other Canon are there, but some are not as easy to locate as they are on the SD870. That's where reading the detailed 148-page users manual will come in handy. Unfortunately, despite reading quite a few positive reviews about the camera before purchasing it, I never noticed anyone mention the fact that Canon is no longer providing the PRINTED copy of the 148-page users manual in the box. It's great that it is provided on a CD and is easily loaded to your computer, particularly when you have misplaced the printed copy and need to look something up, but that's not very convenient for when you are a new owner and are trying to learn to use the camera or don't have access to your computer and need to find out how to do something. I definitely want to have a printed copy of the manual, so I now have to decide if I am going to print it myself or buy a copy of the manual from someone online who sells camera manuals. This is an unexpected expense and unexpected delay in getting up to speed on taking advantage of the capabilities of the camera. It's only been 2 1/2 years since I bought my last Canon camera--and it came with a printed manual--so I was not aware of this obvious cost-cutting step that Canon has taken with it products. I'm still glad that I have the camera, but I don't appreciate having to get my own copy of the printed manual. I would have preferred to pay a bit more for the camera in order to have the manual there in the box. FYI...If you lose the Canon CD that your manual is on and no longer have it on your computer, you can download the manual from the Canon web site and can read it online just fine, but if you have to print it out from a download you get from the Canon web site it will print with the word 'COPY' in a medium-gray color across each page. You can, however read through the medium-gray 'COPY'.
Great point and shoot, case recommendation - Jul 13, 2010
Im not going to review the merits of this point and shoot camera. Other reviews pretty much echo the pros and cons. We find it a great portable point and shoot camera. The "wide angle" aspect really makes pictures look like they are encompassing more area compared to my previous cameras. I would recommend that users looking for a small sleek and fitting case get the Caselogic UNZT-2. We got it and fits wonders. Check out my review on that product for more details. Caselogic UNZT-2 Compact Camera Case (Blue/Compressed Flower)
Great Camera - Jul 11, 2010
Purchased two of these for my daughters. They both love this camera. The camera was recommended by Consumer Reports. Takes very good pictures and fun to use. Have had good luck with other Canon digital cameras for years. Easy to hold and use of the controls.
slim size w/ nice features - Jul 03, 2010
This camera is quite easy to use. I like that this camera also fits in your pocket - this was especially handy when we were on a family trip - I could slip it into my shorts' pocket between shots (and keeping track of the kids), without it being too bulky. I also like the zoom capabilities, and it's easy enough to use - even my kids can take nice shots with it. I've had the camera for a month now and am still pleased with this purchase. An extra feature that is fun, but not necessary is the baby blue hue. Oh, and with the purchase of this camera, I received a sturdy leather case and SD card free of charge. This was a nice incentive, and I love this protectiveness the case provides - (I don't remember which case it is specifically, but it was around $14/$15 regularly).
Great Camera - Jul 03, 2010
Camera works beautifully, especially in lowlight. Its also fast between shots and has lots of functions for the serious photographer.
Canon PowerShot SD 1300IS - Jun 26, 2010
First of all, the camera did not arrive when specified so I phoned Amazon customer service whereupon they sent me another camera expedited shipping immediately. The replaced camera arrived in 2 days (I have still not received the original ordered camera to this date) so, can only deduce the camera was lost in the mail. Delivery by both methods was USPS.
I really like this camera. The photos are beautiful and the camera is easy to use. I like the silvery blue color of the camera as well. It is light and I take it everywhere for superb shots.
Amazon customer service is truly concerned for your satisfaction and I felt went the extra mile to make sure my case was taken care of -- to my delight!
Great Little Camera! - Jun 24, 2010
I had previously owned the Canon SD 750, which I had for three years. I used it all of the time, and had wonderful results. Unfortunately, that camera was stolen from our room during a recent Econolodge hotel stay. Since I loved my old camera, I checked out all of the newer Canons. After comparing this camera with other Canons, and all of the Nikon Coolpix, and reading reviews for all of them, I chose to purchase this camera. I love it! It has many more features than my previous Canon, and takes great pictures. It's so small that I can easily slip it into my purse. A great camera, at a very reasonable price.
love this camera - Jun 24, 2010
Great point and shoot camera. Easy to use, great pictures and I love the blue. Very cute and sleek.
Great little camera - Jun 20, 2010
I like this camera because it is small and it is a Canon. Since I have had it for only four days I will only say it takes great pictures on the Auto mode with and without the zoom. I took a few pictures in the dark and they came amazingly clear for this size camera.
So far I am a very satisfied customer.
PROS: Quality of pictures, size, flash, comes with a battery charger and Amazon gave me a free 4GB card.
CONS: No viewfinder but if you want one, you get a camera with it. Battery life is kind of short so I got an extra battery.
Will come back later to add to this review.
Compact camera with excellent quality photos! - Jun 17, 2010
I bought this camera 3 days ago and am in love with it. My husband has the Canon Powershot D10 (which btw is HIGHLY recommended as well!)and decided I would like a more compact one (compared to the D10 this camera has a lid that closes over the lens). I takes AWESOME pictures (see photos) and the battery life is great. Its definitely "point and shoot" it has smart auto and a good amount of features. I am not crazy into photography...I just use it casually. If your more concerned about quality photos as opposed to features this camera is definitely for you. I am not hard to please and this camera meet my expectations.
SD1300IS First Impressions... - Jun 16, 2010
Just received this camera about a week ago. Great deal on Amazon - $[...] (which included $20 off which I think is a Canon instant rebate), plus a free Canon case and 4GB memory. The case is very nice and classy, although a bit stiff, but I am sure it will break in. I also see that Amazon is offering free 2-day shipping now, which sweetens the deal.
As for the camera, my first impression are that I love it.
Physically, it looks sharp in the blue color and but more importantly it has taken great pictures. There is not much you can manipulate other than using pre-programmed setting and a few other settings, which make it great for those who just want to "point and shoot." It comes with a USB to RCA cable which allows you to view photos and videos on your TV - and one video I viewed looked great. I said to myself it looks like you are right there watching everything live.
Again, these are my first impressions since I just got it. The only suggestion I would make is...
It is small and the camera finish is smooth, so use the wrist strap to prevent you from dropping it - especially if you have large hands.
Also one con: the little flap that covers the USB port/slot is cumbersome - I feel like I am going to break it off each time I open it.
Great Little Camera!!! - Jun 12, 2010
I did a little research online hoping to find a point and shoot camera that truly is "point n shoot". This is it. I recently took it on vacation and got beautiful pictures without having to fiddle around with the options. There is a mode that allows you to customize a shot but the Auto function has worked just fine.. I recommend this camera to anyone who is not a camera "pro" but just wants to be able to take great pictures without effort.
Great little digital camera - Jun 08, 2010
This camera is extremely easy to use and produces great pictures under all conditions. Excellent choice for those who don't wish to invest a lot of time in learning intricacies of digital cameras. We use it for routine picture taking indoors and outdoors. Canon PowerShot SD1300IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Blue)
Don't like this camera! - Jun 06, 2010
I bought this to replace the older version of this camera since my original one broke. So frustrated with this camera. Auto mode is terrible - too slow to focus on subject, color is always off and lots of blurry and grainy photos. I've been trying to learn how to use the program settings, but that takes too long when trying to capture buys kids on camera. Outdoor shots are okay, but indoor are terrible. I want to throw this camera away and not even consider canon again.
